  1. Student Technology Leadership Program(STLP) Procedures to Follow as a Member of STLP!

  2. What is STLP? The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP™) uses project-based learning to empower students to use technology to learn and achieve.

  3. STLP Mission The Mission of the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is to: 1.Advance the individual capabilities of students; 2. To motivate all students; 3. To create leadership opportunities through the use of technology.

  4. Student Technology Leadership Program Goals • The STLP will develop activities that enhance the academic, social and emotional growth of the student. • The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students. • The STLP will experience multi-age collaboration by forming innovative learning partnerships. • The STLP will form learning partnerships between students with different technology skills. • The STLP will develop activities that benefit communities. • The STLP will develop instructional activities, which integrate technology and benefit the school and support the Kentucky Education Technology System (KETS).

All Advanced Technology Students Will Participate in STLP As Part of Class Requirements! • October 30, 2012= Deadline to register for Regional Showcase! • December 6, 2012= Regional Showcase Competition at WKU • January 4, 2013= Deadline to register for State Product Competition! • March 1, 2013= Deadline to register for State Competition! • March 28, 2013= State Championship!

STLP Behavior Requirements! • Your BEST behavioris always a necessity! • Honesty is a mandatory quality! • Communication is key to being successful! • Make a decision and stick to it! • Timeliness is a must to be a competitor! • Good Digital Citizenship! • Adhere to ALL BCMS rules! • All STLP members will be competitors! • Clean up after yourself! Trash in trash can! • Put table, chairs, and materials back where you found them!

  7. Student Technology Standards • STLP projects, services and products tie directly to ISTE NETS (http://www.iste.org/standards/nets-for-students.aspx). • 21st Century Skills (http://www.p21.org/) and • Kentucky Department of Education Technology Program of Studies (TE POS).

International Society of Technology Education (ISTE) 1.Creativity and InnovationStudents demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. 2.Communication and CollaborationStudents use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. 3.Research and Information FluencyStudents apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. 4.Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision MakingStudents use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. 5.Digital CitizenshipStudents understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. 6.Technology Operations and ConceptsStudents demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. STLP has projects, products and services that will help build these skills. Students may demonstrate the skills during Regional Fall Showcase, Winter Virtual Judging and State Championship each year. Projects will be stronger when projects are: • Related to a need in the building and/or community • Carried out by the students over time with adult guidance • May include student interest or current or emerging technology topics • Reinforced by school and the community and are part of the school culture

Projects will be stronger when projects are: (Continued) • Centered around the STLP Mission and Goals • Demonstrate student technology standards • Students are engaged in a global collaborative project such as ThinkQuest, iEarn • Partnered across grades, schools, communities (local, state, national and global) • Students can discuss the project well with an adult because they have active involvement in the project

  12. Best projects are recognized for: • Unique features • Impact on student(s) • Impact on school or community (local to global) • Use of a variety of technology tools (Hardware, software and Web 2.0)

  13. Make Your Choice! District Showcase: There are three categories to choose from: • Community Service: projects that extend outside the classroom to help the school and community • Instructional: projects that impact classroom instruction and help with student or adult learning • Technical Expertise: project with a purpose; in-depth and specific use of hardware or software

INDIVIDUAL ONLY • Digital Art: student creates original digital art • Gazette Reporter Service: one student posts a story about Fall Showcase for a Gazette position at State • Graphic Design: one student creates graphic design piece • Manipulated Image: one student takes an original photo, manipulates it into a totally new image and posts both • Multimedia: one student uses three types of digital media to teach a concept • Music: one student creates original digital music piece • Photo: one student takes an original image • Poster: one student creates an original digital poster • Storytelling: one student writes an an original story • Technical Writing: one student creates technical piece

INDIVIDUAL OR UP TO TWO STUDENTS • Presenter Service: 1-2 students submit a 2 minute presentation video, slides & resume for a session at State TEAM ONLY (Team can be 1 or more students) • Documentary: one school team creates an original documentary video using new footage • ePublishing/Publishing: one team creates a product used by a class, school or the community • Feature: one team creates a video using new footage • KATE Imagine You Were There: one team creates a historic animation using primary sources • PSA: one team creates a PSA video (15, 30 or 60 sec.)
