On June 18, 2010, Congressman Daniel Maffei attended the Relay for Life event in Baldwinsville, NY, where I had the privilege of meeting him. During our conversation, I inquired about his stance on H.R. 2067, the Protecting America's Workers Act (PAWA). With an average of 134 work-related fatalities occurring yearly in New York State, there is a pressing need for updated legislation. Maffei assured me of his support for PAWA, recognizing the outdated OSH Act, which has left millions of workers vulnerable. We exchanged contact information for further discussions on this critical issue.

On June 18, 2010 Congressional Rep. Daniel Maffei spoke at the Relay for Life event in Baldwinsville, NY. I had the opportunity and pleasure of meeting him and asking if he intends to support the H.R. 2067 legislation for Protecting American’s Workers Act known as PAWA. The reason for this legislation is due to the statistics that demonstrate over an 8 year span in NYS that an average of 134 work related fatalities occur each year. Currently the OSH Act fails to protect millions of workers and its evident the OSH act is 40 years old. My organization has been collecting petition signatures to urge Congress to support the Bill. Congressional Rep. Mr. Maffei did confirm that he would support PAWA. He convened that Protecting Americas Workers Act is something he would definitely support. I was handed business cards from him and his executive assistance in order to contact them for further discussions on this matter. Local 2320 By Debra Gonzales
