  1. The Truth About Matthew 9:35(KJV) And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Things We Really Need To Know

  2. Why A Sermon On This Subject? • To be reminded about the truth and uniqueness of Jesus’ miracles. • That we might better be able to discuss the miracles of Jesus with disbelievers and skeptics. • That we might, because of his great power, put ALL of our trust and confidence in him, and serve and obey him faithfully.

  3. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel

  4. The Miracles of Jesus Are Inseperable From The Gospel. • All 4 accounts of the gospel talk about the miracles of Jesus. • It helps us know that our Savior is powerful enough to do miracles. The Gospel makes sure we know about his power. • We KNOW that Jesus can forgive our sins BECAUSE he was able to heal this man of the Palsy!!! Mark 2:5-12(KJV) 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.  6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? 8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?  9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)  11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.  12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion. John 20:30-31(KJV) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

  5. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel • Their importance was emphasized by Jesus

  6. The Importance of The Miracles Were Emphasized By Jesus • Jesus always the importance of miracles in his ministry… • Jesus used this power to work miracles to demonstrate his power to forgive sin. • Jesus did things that no one else could do… Luke 7:20-22(KJV) When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?  And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.  Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

  7. Jesus Did Things No One Else Could Do • The miracles Jesus did are different than the things many call miracles today • Natural phenonenon • Doctors • “Faith Healers” and magicians • The miracles of Jesus differed greatly…

  8. Jesus’ Miracles Were Different… • Healed from a fever. • A body part re-attached • Raised from the dead John 15:24(KJV) If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

  9. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel • Their importance was emphasized by Jesus • Jesus’ motives were always pure…

  10. Jesus’ Motives… Pure, High and Noble • Not like the “faith healers” • Jesus did have adoring fans… • Jesus’ motive was to help us… • For Jesus, doing good was a way of life • John 20:30-31(KJV) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. • Acts 10:38(KJV) How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

  11. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel • Their importance was emphasized by Jesus • Jesus’ motives were always pure… • Miracles were done in the physical realm

  12. Jesus’ Miracles Were Clearly Done In The Physical Realm John 6:9-14(KJV) There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.  When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.  Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.  Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world. • Jesus’ miracles could be witnessed using the physical senses. • The miracles were puposely done that by witnessing them, belief might come as a result. • Seeing was believing • Here is an example….

  13. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel • Their importance was emphasized by Jesus • Jesus’ motives were always pure… • Miracles were done in the physical realm • Miracles were done openly before enemies

  14. Jesus Did Miracles Openly, Even Before His Enemies • Paul told Agrippa aboutthis…. • Jesus did not confine his miracles to obscure places. • Jesus did miracles in plain sight, unlike “faith healers”. • The Jewish leaders had to confront this • What about the “faith healers”? John 11:45-47(KJV) Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.  But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.  Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.  Acts 26:26(KJV) For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner.

  15. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel • Their importance was emphasized by Jesus • Jesus’ motives were always pure… • Miracles were done in the physical realm • Miracles were done openly before enemies • The results were immediate

  16. The Results of Jesus’ MiraclesWere Immediate • Even when doctors do great things, the healing takes time • Peter’s Mother In Law • A Leper • The Man With The Palsy Mark 1:40-42(KJV) And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.  And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.  And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.  Mark 1:31(KJV) And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.  Mark 2:12(KJV) And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

  17. Facts About… • They are inseparable from the Gospel • Their importance was emphasized by Jesus • Jesus’ motives were always pure… • Miracles were done in the physical realm • Miracles were done openly before enemies • The results were immediate • Jesus’ miracles cannot be duplicated today

  18. Jesus’ Miracles Cannot Be Duplicated Today • Scientists can predict the weather • Jesus can control the weather • Doctors try to keep people from dying • Jesus brought people back from the dead • Why is this so important? Mark 4:37-39(KJV) And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.  And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?  And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

  19. Jesus Is Going To DemonstrateHis Power Over Death One More Time • 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17(KJV) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  20. What Jesus Wants Us To Believe and Obey • Hebrews 11:6(KJV) 6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. • Luke 13:3(KJV) 3I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. • Romans 10:10(KJV) 10For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. • Acts 2:38(KJV) 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. • Rev 2:10 (KJV) …be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life.
