What is UNICEF? • UNICEF believes that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. • UNCRC articles have been created to ensure that children are looked after fairly and that their rights are respected. • UNICEF believes that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.

  3. What is UNICEF? • Formed in 1946 by United Nations (UN) to help children caught up in disasters • United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund = UNICEF • In 1989 created the UN Convention of Rights for the Child (UNCRC). These rights or articles are used by 191 of 193 countries throughout the World.

  4. What is UNICEF? • UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. • It has the global authority to influence decision-makers. For Every Child

  5. Do you think all children have the right to an education, play, to be them selves and to have a safe healthy childhood?

  6. What is the UNICEFRights Respecting School Award? • An award system that helps schools to adopt a rights respecting approach in which students have a ‘voice’ and their views can be heard. • However, rights go hand in hand with respect. • At Davison we need you to help us to devise and implement a range of strategies to develop further our rights respecting ethos.

  7. What is the Rights Respecting Team? • You! • Led by Yr11 students – Rights Respecting Leaders • Rights Respecting Reps – from Years 7 – 11, from every colour family • You get a chance to have a voice in school and look at children’s rights around the world
