Phrases work as a team to clarify meaning. • Copy: (Around the house) (the boys) (played quietly). • Underline the subject(s) once and the main verb(s) twice in the following sentence. Identify all phrases. Then, identify all parts of speech: “In central Indiana lived her second and third cousins.”

  10. Building Background (summarize 3 important facts) Stage actors were the celebrities of the nineteenth century (1800’s). One of the greatest actors of his day was Edwin Booth. Abraham Lincoln had seen Edwin perform many times. Edwin’s brother, John Wilkes Booth, shot Lincoln during a performance and then jumped from the president’s box yelling “death to tyrants” in Latin.
