Key Stage One SATs

1. Key Stage One SATs Tuesday 6th May to Thursday15th May

2. Reported results • Reported results will be determined by teacher assessment. This will reflect the children's everyday achievements in conjunction with the SATs test results. It is not just the results obtained in a 'one-off' test.

3. English • Reading comprehension - Task (with teacher) OR independent test. • Writing tasks – Long task (45 minutes) • & Short task (30 minutes) • The tasks focus on a different genre of writing. • Spelling test – using the sounds we have learnt. • Speaking and listening – teacher assessment only.

4. How you can help • The children need to be confident in... • using and applying their sounds • recognising and spelling tricky words • starting their sentences in different ways • using capital letters, full stops, question and exclamation marks • using commas when listing • using adjectives, similes, alliteration and adverbs • using conjunctions - and, because, but, so • using time connectives • answering questions about a story / information (AF booklet) • beginning to join their letters - please check formation of letters

5. Mathematics • Maths task – with an adult • OR • Maths tests - independent

6. Maths covered so far... • counting in ones, twos, tens, fives • place value • comparing two numbers - using the more than/less than signs • Addition and subtraction - mentally and using a 100 square • number bonds to 10, 20 and 100 • doubles and halves • odd and even numbers • ordinal numbers • multiplication and division - repeated addition and sharing / grouping • organising data - bar graphs, pictograms, binary tree • money • shapes - 2D and 3D, • symmetry • right angles • position and direction - clockwise/anticlockwise, left/right, forwards/backwards • time - hour, half hour, quarter past and quarter to and duration of time • measures – length • Problem-solving using the skills above

7. Science • Teacher assessment only based on the following areas : • Scientific enquiry – investigations / experiments • Life and life processes - plants and animals • Materials and their properties • Physical processes – electricity, forces and motion, light and sound

8. We make sure the SAT period is not stressful for the children. • All the tasks and tests they will complete are things we have already done in class.

9. National Curriculum Levels... • The national average is a level 2 • All children will gain a level. These will vary between individuals. • The children can gain a level 1c, 1b, 1a, 2c, 2b, 2a or a level 3.
