HURRICANE STORM SEASON • HILTON HEAD, LIKE ALL EAST COAST COASTAL REGIONS, ARE SUBJECT TO MAJOR STORMS JUNE 1ST THROUGH NOVEMBER 31ST EACH YEAR • Hilton Head Motor Coach Resort, is 12 feet above SEA LEVEL • HILTON HEAD HAS HAD VERY FEW HURRICANES OVER THE YEARS • HUGO 1989 – CATEGORY 4 • GRACI 1959 – CATEGORY 3 Enjoy your stay and be informed of weather conditions.

  3. TYPES OF STORMS • TROPICAL DEPRESSION • ORGANIZED SYSTEM WITH WINDS OF UP TO 38 MPH • TROPICAL STORM • Well organized storm with max winds 39 – 73 MPH • HURRICANE • Intense well defined system with winds in excess of 74MPH

HURRICANE SCALES OF INTENSITYCategory • 1 – Sustained Winds of 74-95 MPH • Damage Minimal • 2 – Sustained Winds of 96 – 110 MPH • Damage Moderate • 3 – Sustained Winds of 111 – 130 MPH • Damage Extensive • 4 – Sustained Winds of 131 – 155 MPH • Damage Extreme • 5 – Sustained Winds of 156 - & UP • CATASTROPHIC

What To Listen For – Evacuate when told to do so- it may take 36 hrs to get off the Island, we have but 1 bridge. • Hurricane / Tropical Storm “WATCH” • Condition are possible to be affected by the storm, usually within 36 hrs – Be prepared, Stay Tuned • Hurricane -Tropical Storm “WARNING” • Storm conditions are expected in the specified area within 24 hrs. Get official information regarding the evacuation and directions. • Hilton Head Island is low country and can be easily flooded by Storm Surge. • HHI Airport elevation is only 20 feet above sea level. • Storm Surges above 15 feet are not uncommon.

Get one at the local retailer such as Radioshack before the weather. • LOCAL RADIO & TV • KISS FM 97.3, WYKZ 98.7, WBMQ AM 630, WLOW 107.9 WEAS 93.1, WSAV #3 • Internet Resources: • www.wunderground.com • National Weather Service – www.nws.noaa.gov • http://www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov/publicsafety/hurricane/ It is your responsibility to be prepared, fuel & water etc. If asked to leave do so at once. Time is very limited, roads will be crowded and slow. 6

Please LEAVE . • IF THE HURRICAN BECOMES A GREATER THREAT AND LOOKS LIKE IT WILL HIT HILTON HEAD THE GOVERNOR WILL ISSUE A MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER, WHICH MEANS YOU MUST LEAVE THE ISLAND AND SEEK SHELTER-QUICKLY • IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE FOR YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION FIRE AND RESCUE WILL PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION, CALL (843) 682-5156 or (843) 682-5125 AND REQUEST ASSISTANCE 7
