About Zagreb School of Economics and Management Private accredited college Inauguration on 1st of July 2002 Using experience and examples from the world’s finest schools, and taking into consideration the economic and other specificities of our own environment, we wish to assist the advancement both of individuals and of Croatian society as a whole.

Goal and Mission • Our goal is to differentiate our programs with quality, international standards and care for each participant and student, knowing that success of our students is the only indicator for our success • The mission of the School is to enrich its students with the knowledge and the skills necessary to navigate and succeed in tomorrow’s competitive and global economy. The School promotes high ethic and moral values in business, an acceptance of responsibility towards humanity, the community and nature, while also nurturing tolerance, an understanding of differences and a culture of dialogue.

International Standards • In the development of its programs ZSEM follows the accreditation criteria proscribed by AACSB, as well as EQUIS. • AACSB • The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business • (AACSB) – It is an international non-profit association that • brings together educational institutions, companies and other • organizations whose task is to promote and improve higher • education in the field of business administration and • management. • ZSEM is the first institution of higher education in Croatia that • has become a member of the AASCSB • AASCSB accreditation likewise represents the highest standard of • excellence that business schools through­out the world can attain • The best known members of the AACSB , which are also its founders, • include the following institutions: Columbia University, Harvard • University, the University of California at Berkeley and Yale • University.

  8. ZSEM and the Bologna Declaration • From its founding, the Zagreb School of Economics and Management has developed its study programs in accordance with the Bologne Declaration. Croatia’s National Board of Education has given the ZSEM a positive rating and permission to carry out its work within the following programs: • A four-year undergraduate study program in economics • and management (240 ECTS points)‏ • A one-year specialized professional MBA graduate • program (60 ECTS points).

Specialized MBA Graduate Program Study takes one year, in particular, two semesters, with graduates gaining at the end of their education period a title of a Master of business administration for the field they studied for and 60 ETCS There are four fields of specialization on graduate MBA program: Marketing Management Finance and Banking Accounting and Audit Management Information Systems

Specialized MBA Graduate Program Program is developed in cooperation with: William Davidson Institute (WDI) at University of Michigan, USA University of Bocconi, Milan, Italy Florida International University John Carrol University, Cleveland, USA 60% of all classes are given by proffesors from foreign universities Each course has domestic (Croatian) leader and also foreign one, too.

Specialized MBA Graduate Program We seek to include in our programs students performing above average, who completed four years of economic or non-economic undergraduate studies, even those with a three-year education, who are expected to pass certain differential exams. We also invite to our program specialists employed in different academic fields – like engineers, bankers, pharmaceuticals, entrepreneurs, specialists from human sciences and human resources, lawyers, language teachers and other experts.

Study-as-you-work Study-as-you-work is for employed people, that can’t attend full time program, but want to gain a degree certificate because of their personal and career development The program is completely adapted to employed participants and the most of the classes are done with e-learning, using the Internet, on WebCT platform

Executive Education Their goal is to increase the abilities of leadership among individual and organization The methods of instruction used enable managers to advance their professional, intellectual and personal abilities Executive Education at ZSEM offers many programs for specializing in areas of management, marketing, finance, banking, and other disciplines The programs last from one to ten days and they are developed in coorporation with domestic and foreign experts The classes are held in very pleasan atmosphere, in small groups of participants, through lectures, case studies and interaction between students and proffesors More than 600 participants from domestic and foreign companies in Croatia have participate in Exceutive Education Programs at ZSEM.

Philip Kotler, the biggest marjketing expert today, was guest at Zagreb School of Economics He gave a lecture to ZSEM students and also to Croatian business society at Croatian National Theathre In May 2007. our guest at ZSEM was Jerry Weissman, world known expert on business presentations, and he gave a lecture for Croatian business society In November 2007. the guest lecturer at ZSEM was the winner for the best book on marketing for 2007. from American Marketing Association, Vijay Mahajan, and he also gave a lecture for Croatian business society.

The ZSEM Summer School Each year, from mid-June and to mid-August, the ZSEM organizes its summer school program The school is designed for students from Croatian and foreign higher education institutions, who would like to broaden their knowledge in the period following their regular studies Through its summer school, the ZSEM offers 7 courses that are part of its regular study program All courses are conducted in the English language

Advanced Teaching Methods • ZSEM is a leading business school in using new technologies, continuous Internet using and e-learning through WebCT platform and videoconferences • All classes, lectures and work materials, including all school programs are available online, on WebCT platform • ZSEM is a member of EDEN( European Distance and E-learning Network)‏

The Case Study Method The method of learning from cases in actual practice (the so-called case study method) is an interactive and dynamic form of learning, based on principles of learning from real situations in management. Students and lecturers jointly analyse and discuss concrete cases, exchanging opinions and experiences and creating solutions that correspond to actual business decisions. In its teaching methods, the ZSEM continuously continuallyuses this useful and modern method of learning

  31. The Simulation Method Currently one of the most modern methods of learning that the ZSEM uses in its work is the simulation method. It is used in the higher years of undergraduate studies and is also very useful in graduate study work. The goal of this method is to place the student in a given role in which he or she must apply insights learned during instruction, as well as other skills, in order to best identifty with the given role and complete his or her task. One of the examples of simulation is Capestone, which simulates ways in which decision-making in a company influences its market position in the business environment.

  32. Literature • Course literature includes the world’s best textbooks in the fields of economics, finances, marketing and management, which are provided for students by MATE the publishing house from Zagreb, one of the co-founders of the School • The literature is included in the scholarship

  33. Continual Quality Evaluation At the end of each semester, students evaluate their professors and their colleagues. At the conclusion of each year, and at the end of each year they evaluate the entire programme. In this way, through this process of student evaluations,, the quality of the programme and its work methods are continuously continually improved

The Mentorship Programme The ZSEM is a higher education institution places much importance on regularly consulting the latest literature and imple­menting the latest findings in the field of educational guidance. In accordance with this, the ZSEM ini­tiated a mentorship programme for students, entitled SPOT, in the 2006/2007 academic year SPOT (Croatian: Studenti Pomažu Orijentiraju Treniraju, i.e. Students Help Orient Train) is a mentorship programme in which first-year students (freshmen) receive a successful higher year student as their personal mentor in order to help them successfully integrate into the ZSEM’s system of studies Besides providing academic support, the mentorship relationship is based on friendly contact, shared experiences and positive identification with successful students

Knowledge Centers Knowledge centers at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management continually organise seminars and conferences in order to stimulate exchange and development of insights among Croatian and foreign experts. Career Center • The Career Centre at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management assists students in locating pos­­sibilities for practical training through permanent and temporary employment. The Career Centre provides firms with access to students, and thus firms in­crease their chances of receiving high-quality students and can quickly and efficiently find students for temporary, permanent and other student jobs • The common goal is to link firms and students for the benefit of both sides. Students can find flexible jobs that can provide them with financial support during their studies. Additionally, students can develop their capabilities, skills, tools and techniques in business through these employment opportunities

Student Future Day One of the most successful activities organised by the ZSEM Career Centre and the School itself is Student Future Day, the purpose of which is to present ZSEM programmes and students to the Croatian business community Representatives of the human resources departments of leading Croatian firms attended Student Future Day, held in May 2006 for the first time This project opened many doors in Croatian firms to ZSEM students, leading to possibilities of practice training and permanent employment.

  38. The Student Union The ZSEM excels in offering its students various activities in its extracurricular programmes. Students of the ZSEM can spend their extracurricular time involved in the following activities: The Student Union The organization of extracurricular activities is for the most part carried out by the ZSEM Student Union, which has the following offices: The Financial Office The Office for Relations with Professors The Public Relations Office The Sports Office The Student Activities Office The Student Union’s most popular office is the Sports Office, which offers the possibility of partici­pa­ting in the following sports: football, basketball, handball, volleyball, golf and weight-lifting (i.e. fit­ness centre activities).

Student Study Trips ZSEM organises various study trips During the last academic year several groups of students visited Japan, the Russian Federation and Cleveland in the USA These study trips represent another vehicle through which the ZSEM continuously strives to develop international partnerships, in order to increase the mobility of its students both during and after their academic work.
