Mathematics and Computer Science • MCS division is actively seeking collaborations outside of PBCS between application groups and MCS computational scientists. • New levels of computational power coming on line now enable applications to carry out extremely high-fidelity simulations. • MCS now runs 2048-processor (5.8 TFlop/s) Blue Gene Sumpercomputer • Planning acquisition of 40,000 proc, 100TFlop/s version • BG/L application workshop a success; more planned • A current project: simulation of nuclear energy • Existing parallel hi-fidelity reactor core model • Exploration o f first general component framework for integrated systems sim. • Active research in many areas of high-performance computing – visualization, i/o, linear/nonlinear solvers, grid computing, software engineering, scalable tools, automatic differentiation, etc.
