  1. Dangers and Opportunities of the Internet Short-term joint stafftraining event Suceava 19-23 November 2018 Using e-learning platforms and e-tools in the classroom QUIZLET AND PADLET Joanna Janas-Sajdak

  2. QUIZLET • Quizlet.com is a free website which enables teachers and students to create digital flash cards, which can be later used in study and game modes. • It is a very simple and intuitive free tool, which can be used inside and outside of classroom and will definitely make learning enjoyable for students. • It can be used to study new vocabulary in a foreign language classroom and new terms in any other.

  3. SIGN IN You can sign up using your Google or Facebook account Or you can create a quizlet account providing your e-mail address and creating a password.

  4. Log in Once you have created an account you can log in by typing your username and password or you can use your Google or Facebook account.

Creating a personal set can be a perfecthomework to learn and revisematerial. Whenworking with Quizletyoucanusesetsalreadycreated by others. Youcan search by keywords, subjects, and titles to find helpful sets on what you're teaching in class.

  6. CREATING A SET However, personalisedsetsseem to speedupmemorisationand theyareveryeasy to make. Click „Create” at the top of the page, giveyour set a title, youcanalsoannoteit with an image or a diagram. Type in a term on the leftside and a definitionortranslation on the right. If you have existing word lists, you can easily import them using the Quizlet website.

  7. LEARNING WITH QUIZLET When learning you can use the list of words first, look at the images and, by clicking on the little loudspeaker image on the right, you can find out how the word is pronounced.

  8. FLASHCARDS You can use electronic flashcards to memorise new terms. Since Quizlet's study tools and games are adapted specifically for mobile use you can use your time effectively studying everywhere.

  9. LEARNING MODE The greates advantage of Quizlet is that it provides many different tools to study with your sets. In the learning mode you learn by choosing the appropriate answer or typing in the correct answer, or you check your spelling after listening to a word. Learning becomes more effective, because you engage many senses.

  10. GAMES We all know that we learn the fastest when we play and have fun. Quizlet offers two types of games that can be used individually. You can race against the clock to drag and match terms/definitions . Or, in the space race, you can type in the answer as terms/definitions scroll across the screen.

  11. QUIZLET LIVE You can make learning or revising even more fun by engaging students in Quizlet live in your lessons. Choose a set you want to revise, ask your student to go to Quizlet live, create a game, show students the code, which they type in once on Quizlet live and make them enjoy group work. My students prefer Quizlet live to Kahoot because they say playing in groups is more fun.

  12. PADLET Padlet is an interactive dashboard, which makes it possible for teachers and students to collaborate.

  13. PADLET.COM It can be used to brainstorm, collect and share ideas, information, videos, articles. You can create your own dashboard, personalize it, invite people to read it or collaborate and share it.

  14. Signing in and logging in Similarly to Quizlet, you can sign in and log in with Google, Facebook and Microsoft or create an account.

  15. STARTING PAGE Once you have logged in you will see a page like this. You can make your own padlet, join a padlet or search the gallery to look for inspiration. You can create folders, see the padlets you have made, see which once you have shared.

  16. MAKING A NEW PADLET If you click on „Make a Padlet”, you will have to choose a layout that will suit your needs. You can organize your materials in many different ways: walls, canvas, streams, grids or shelves. You can also choose a backchannel layout, which will enable you and people you invite to discuss a topic.

  17. PERSONALIZING After choosing the layout, you can move on to personalizing your padlet. Go to settings and you can modify many elements like wallpaper, the colour of posts, font, give your padlet a title and describe it, choose an icon, decide about posting and collaboration. You can also upload wallpaper from your computer.

  18. PRIVACY settings Another step is choosing privacy settings. There are four options available: private, password protected, secret and public.

  19. Privacysettings When you are adding contributors you can decide what the people you invite can do.

  20. SHARING There are many options of sharing your padlet. You can use an QR code, send a link, embed it on your blog or website, share it on Facebook, Twitter or on Google Classroom.

  21. POSTING When your padlet is personalised, you start posting. You just have to click on the „plus” button.

  22. POSTING You can give your posts a title, upload files from your computer, add links, photos, record your voice or your screen. If you are not satisfied, you can easily delete the post by clicking the bin icon.

  23. Example of a grid layout • In this padlet I posted online materials I used during a lesson. I simply made an QR code available to students and they could easily access and use materials. It saved a lot of precious lesson time. It is also useful for coordinating and checking the progress of groupwork and projects. With appropriate provacy setings students have the opportunity to collaborate and add posts themselves.

  24. Example of a stream layout • Padlet makes lesson preparation and organization a lot easier. It’s enough to upload all the materials you need and simply show them to students on the screen without having to switch from one website to another.

  25. Example of a shelf layout • There are many tutorials and articles with ideas on how to use Padlet in the classroom available on the Internet. You will find some of the links presented here on the last slide.
