  1. Western Campaigns 1778-1779 • British forces at Detroit and Fort Niagara raided western settlements.

  2. George Rogers Clark Led about 175 men down the Ohio River to Kaskaskia, and also captured Cahokia, Vincennes, and other outposts.

  3. Colonel William Hamilton • Earned the nickname “Hair buyer” because he would pay Indians money for American scalps.

  4. Hamilton strikes! Late in 1778 Hamilton and his forces retake Vincennes.

  5. Clark starts a siege at Vincennes Clark kills an Indian in plain view of the fort to show that the British cannot protect them.

  6. Hamilton Surrenders Hamilton and his men are spared when they surrender early in 1778.

  7. July 1778 Hundreds of Loyalists and Indians went into the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania and took about 200 scalps.

  8. The frontier calls for help Washington sends 4,000 men under the command of John Sullivan and James Clinton. John Sullivan 

  9. Total destruction They were ordered to destroy the Iroquois country. They destroyed about 40 villages including their orchards and food supplies.
