TSB interaction with the research base • 56% of the money we invest is with projects involving the research base. • 36% of our total investment goes to the research base (this includes RC co-funding). 30% of TSB investment is with the research base. • 76% of total grant to research base goes to 25 organisations. • 15-20% KTN members are from the research base. • 18% _connect members are from the research base.

Clyde Space and Strathclyde University • Building UK’s first nanosatellite system • Puts Scotland at forefront of CubeSat technology • £1m raised in venture capital • Developed from subsystem supplier to builder of whole satellites • Project generated £500k in funding for Strathclyde University • Associate now employed to oversee CubeSat programme

Helitune Ltd and University of Bristol • Developed and deployed a novel algorithm (Minimum Flight Routine) which processes in-flight data for rotor track and balancing. • Transformed the helicopter market’s perception of Helitune equipment. ‘The whole management team feel the value of KTP.   16. Universities have extraordinary potential to enhance economic growth. Incentives should be strengthened to encourage maximum engagement in an enhanced Third Mission alongside Research and Education, and universities should make facilitating economic growth a core strategic goal.
