  2. Introduction – What’s Ucycle Nottingham all about ? Establishing an exemplar project in Nottingham to promote cycling at the city’s two universities and at the regional teaching hospital.

  3. Aims • Increase levels of cycling amongst staff and students • Increase awareness of the benefits of cycling amongst students and staff • Share best practice to ensure widespread take-up

Successes • Partnership working • Bicycle Business Mileage increased at the UoN from 5p per mile to 20p per mile • 460 Ucycle Hire Bikes • Staff Cycle scheme relaunched at NTU and NUHT • Getting cycling embedded in the day to day functions of the partners; e.g. improved on campus infrastructure, MayFest, advice sought on Transport Access Strategy at NUHT

  8. Route usage Clifton Campus: • Annual usage estimate increased from 141,240 (2010) – 157,178 (2011) QMC: Annual usage estimate increased from 2,003,475 (2010) – 2,097,875(2011) University Boulevard: Respondents who had heard of Sustrans increased from 39% to 54%

Bike hire scheme • At the start of the bike hire 47% described themselves as ‘starting to cycle again’ 81% of these now consider themselves ‘experienced occasional or regular’ cyclists • 100% said they will continue to cycle in future “ I think it’s a great opportunity to explore more of the city and keep active, especially during stressful exam times” “Cheaper than bus pass! Helps maintain/improve fitness. Is useful for leisure activities, not just a means of getting to university”
