  1. Knowledge Integration Environment 指導教授:陳明溥 學 生:王麗君

  2. Knowledge Integration Environment • Problem Solving • KIE Projects categories • Scaffolded Knowledge Integration • KIE Software • KIE Partnerships - Activity/Teacher - Activity/Student • KIE Curriculum • Future Directions • Conclusions

  4. KIE Projects categories • Debate projects - to help learners distinguish ideas in their repertoire • Critique projects -to help learners expand their repertoire of ideas and recognize partisan or invalid arguments such as they might find on the Internet • Design projects -to help learners draw on scientific information to solve complex problems

  5. Scaffolded Knowledge Integration Making science accessible - connect their scientific ideas to their own life experiences Making Thinking Visible - conduct their investigations and critiques Encouraging Autonomous Learning - through computer representations and classroom practices Providing Social Supports - benefit from being actively involved in the classroom setting

  6. KIE Software • World-Wide-Web Browser • which provides an appropriate graphical interface for evidence on the Net • HTML Editor • which allows students to create and edit multimedia documents for the Web • E-Mail Software • which allows students to send and receive electronic mail with other individuals • KIE Tool Palette • a constant interface component that affords navigation of the system components

  7. KIE Software Netbook a Net-oriented notebook that allows student groups to organize, analyze, and author evidence Networked Evidence Databases (NED) collections of scientific evidence both from the Net and created by students, organized by science topic and activity SpeakEasy a multimedia discussion tool which allows students to conduct structured conversations about their scientific ideas over the Net

  8. KIE Software • Student Knowledge Integration Planner and Profiler (SKIPP) • a teacher tool that allows users to design and orchestrate Net-oriented activities for their students, as well as identify and customize activities for individual students based on their proficiencies and interests • Knowledge Integration Coach (KIC) • an on-line guidance system which provides supporting prompts and feedback as students work on activities

  10. KIE Partnerships • Teacher • Scientist  • Educational Researcher • Student  • Parent

  11. KIE Curriculum Method • Provided richer, multimedia evidence than the text-based evidence used in the off-line version • Supported students with on-line guidance, augmenting the assistance coming from the teacher • Guided students as they completed each part of the activity with a checklist that indicated completed work and next steps

  12. *Teacher Project checklist: Introduction Survey evidence Create evidence Specialize Refine Argument Discuss your ideas - peer → group → question → homework *Student Participate - Join a partnership - Reaction - Book review - Submit student ideas Activity - Stating personal position - Exploring and develop evidence - Refine an argument - Conclude Activity

  13. KIE Curriculum The KIE curriculum consists of activities that help students develop • the ability to critique evidence • a propensity toward knowledge integration - KIE activities emphasize depth rather than breadth • an integrated understanding of science topics

  14. Berkeley Activity Design • Anchoring activity • State Opinion activity • Critiquing and Examing evidence activity • Principle Construction activity • Knowledge Integration activity • Virtual Community activity • Debate activity

  15. Future Directions • To make the KIE tools transparent and self-instructional -trial-and-refinement studies with a broad, representative range of users • To implement the Scaffolded Knowledge Integration -must provide effective guidance/meaningful feedback • To develop skill in evaluating evidence -from peers, from newspapers, and from other sources to develop effective guidance for assessing networked materials. • KIE has the potential of fundamentally changing classroom activities

  16. Conclusions Individual KIE Learning Context Activity/Task Tools
