  1. Best Dermatologist in Hyderabad --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That Face Cream You Love Could be Destroying Your Skin Manisha’s wedding was only a month away and the 28-year-old human resource manager went to a beauty parlour to avail a facial package that promised her supple skin and an irresistible glow. However, things didn’t go as planned. A breakout of acne threatened to ruin her wedding plans and she landed at a dermatologist’s clinic. The dermatologist revealed that the breakout was the result of a use of a cream by the parlour that had steroids. Tanisha, a housewife in Hyderabad used a daily moisturizing cream to remove dryness on her face but after using it for a year she developed redness of the skin, accompanied by itching and burning. She visited some of the best dermatologists in Hyderabad and came to know that she had been using a cream that contained steroid. Dermatologists are saying that simple skin ailments are fast deteriorating to almost untreatable levels as there is a widespread use of creams that contain a cocktail of steroids. There are also a lot of patients who are showing the side-effects of steroid use. Fairness creams & moisturizing creams are just some of the culprits. A study from 12 dermatology centres in seven different states of India show that almost 15% of the dermatology outpatients with facial dermatoses (skin diseases) are already using topical corticosteroids (TCs) when they contact a specialist. Alarmingly, in 93 % of the cases, the TC is either not needed at all or used for much longer than needed.

  2. In 2017, the Centre was issued notice by the Delhi High Court to ensure that no topical medications with a “cocktail of harmful steroids” are sold without a valid prescription. The steroids in question are used to treat a variety of skin diseases. This notice was in response to a PIL filed by the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venerologists and Leprologists (IADVL), a official body of dermatologists and skin specialists which has questioned the misuse of topical corticosteroids, a class of drugs used to treat a variety of skin diseases. The petition asks for a ban on the manufacture and sale of several skin creams containing steroids which are marketed for skin conditions such as pigmentation, itching, fairness and inflammation. It also sought an independent high-level inquiry into how the Central Drug Standards and Control Organisation (CDSCO) granted approval for the commercial manufacture, use, and sale of hazardous as well as irrational and unscientific steroid combinations, and an order to prosecute the officers concerned. Doctors are particularly concerned about cocktails of multiple drugs like clobetasol with antibiotics such as ofloxacin and neomycin and anti-fungal drugs such as miconazole and terbinafine. Cocktails of drugs besides leaving patients to face the side effects also increase the possibility of infections that develop drug resistance. Many doctors are of the view that steroid-laced creams which are sold in India are not available in countries of Western Europe and North America which have stronger drug regulatory regimes. Dermatologists in Hyderabad are also a signatory to this petition and have condemned the practices of profiteering companies who put the patients at risk.
