Objectives (Why Dream?) • Everybody dreams—you just don’t remember! • What do dreams really mean—what if you see a running squirrel? • Doctors interpret dreams to help patients • I’m a dreamer • Many people are inspired by their dreams • (Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein) • All cultures have beliefs on dreams

  3. Problems (Nightmares!) • Too much info on the Web • Making Freddy look pretty • Organizing everything • Getting Java Applet to work • I was in New York with my relatives • Only 5 minutes to present

What I Learned • Within 5 minutes of waking, you forget 50% of your dream • Lots of data about dreams that I put in Excel worksheet • Most dream content is negative though not necessarily a nightmare • Use of Sharepoint Designer to help organize & design webpages • Jung & Freud had battle over dreams

Views on Dreams in Different Cultures • “Nightmare” was demon (incubus) in Dark Ages that paralyzes & has sex with sleeper • Chinese believed soul left body during dream • “Lucid” dreaming first taught in Malaysia • Constantine converts Empire to Christianity due to dream where shown a cross • IdiAmin banished Asians from Uganda because told by God in a dream • Native Americans used Dream Catchers to catch bad dreams in web

  6. What My Website Contains • Proposal in Microsoft Word • Webpages with facts & history relating to dreams • Microsoft Excel worksheet with data on contents of dreams • Microsoft Powerpoint presentation • Photos and pictures • Java Applet game • Links to other sites

  7. Conclusions • The Web has plenty of info on dreams & there are many different opinions • If you see a squirrel, you are in a loveless or pointless relationship! • Dreams reveal concerns & interests but don’t necessarily predict behavior • Media (science, stories, music, movies) show our fascination with dreams • Nap Time! Sweet Dreams!
