  1. Action Plan Ms. Quratul Ain The City School Mathematics Grade 11

  2. Long-term Goal Adopt 21st century teaching approaches to enhance Thinking skills of students for better understanding of Mathematical concepts.

  3. Short-term Goal Change my assessment strategies to broaden horizon of the student. Allow students to generate new ideas to enhance their Problem solving skills. Encourage collaboration among students so that they will be confident about their knowledge. foster judgmental thinking to analyze result.

  4. Thinking Is Our Identity We look up to those who “think well” Though we’re not always sure what that means. And we look down on those who don’t “think well” Though we’re not sure what that means either.

  5. Which Thinking Skills Are Usually Taught? From the Greek philosophers, principally Socrates, Plato and Aristotle Argument Criticism Judgmental thinking Analysis and classification Deductive logical (linear) reasoning

  6. How Can Technology Help? Technology provides Organizational tools Access to information Evaluation tools Tools for communication and interaction with others

  7. Which Thinking Skills Are Needed For The 21st Century? • Generating new ideas • Examining and adjusting perceptions • Discovering and utilizing patterns • Asking new questions

  8. How Do We Learn To Think? • Sometimes we are taught • Occasionally in a more general way • Most often “problem solving skills” • Sometimes Bloom’s Taxonomy • And even these are usually taught in the context of a specific subject or a specific type of assignment.

  9. Bloom’s Taxonomy

  11. Instructional Strategies and Tasks

  12. Application of 21st Century teaching Approaches Topic Transformation 21st Century Approaches • Multimedia Presentations • Word Processing • Internet Access 21st Century Skills • Giving Direction Skills • Questioning Skills • Observational Skills Problem • Availability of Multimedia Solution • Computer lab can be utilized

  13. Application Of Bloom’s Taxonomy teaching methods Bloom’s Taxonomy Teaching Methods • RememberingSkills • Understanding • Analysis • Evaluation • Create Learning Outcomes • To develop mathematical language as a means of communication and investigation. • To explore mathematical ways of reasoning. Evidence • Locus and Construction Multimedia Presentation

  14. Solution of Anticipating challenges Challenges Computer lab might not be available. Availability of multimedia setup. If facility of photocopy of worksheets is not provided Solutions through principals permission I will keep two periods in a week for IT lab. Two sections will be merged. Worksheets will be mailed to the students.

  15. Resources • www.m-a.org.uk/links/ • www.tre.ngfl.gov.uk • www.nrich.maths.org • www.GraphJam.com • www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/maths/ • Computer Lab • Intel teach program manual • Word processing, Multimedia and Spreadsheet applications

  16. Conclusion By implementing 21st century teaching approaches and Bloom’s Taxonomy based teaching methods my student will derive satisfaction, enjoyment and confidence from the understanding of concepts and will be able to formulate problems into mathematical terms and communicate appropriate techniques of solution.

  17. Acknowledgement I am deeply thankful to almighty Allah who gave me courage to cope up with the Intel course My utmost gratitude to the Management of The City School for their untiring effort in encouraging the teaching staff to pursue professional growth. The special thank goes to Intel organization who introduced Intel teach program, and published Intel manual that truly helped the progression and smoothness of the course. My grateful thanks also go to both Miss Saira Zaman and Mrs. Sana Adnan. A big contribution and hard worked from both of them during the four week is very great indeed. All products during the program would be nothing without the enthusiasm from both of them. Besides, this Intel program makes me realized the value of working together as a team and as a new experience in working environment, which challenges us every minute. The whole program really brought us together to appreciate the true value of friendship and respect of each other.
