  1. Types of Maps Students will be able to show an understanding of types of maps by creating a table of the maps in a unit.

  2. Types of Maps • General Purpose Maps • Physical • Call out land forms and water features. • The key will show what everything means. • Colors, and whatever else.

  3. Types of Maps • General Purpose #2 • Political Maps • Names and political boundaries of countries • Human made features such as cities and transportation routes

  4. How do these 2 maps differ? What is a physical boundary of India?

  5. Other Types of Maps • Special Purpose Maps • Also called themed maps • Historical maps • Created to show certain items. Use the title to tell what information it is showing. • Events that occurred in a region over time.

  7. Special Purpose Map Continued • Contour Maps • These show 1 line for every major elevation change. • Lines that are close means it is a steep incline or decline • Lines that are farther apart mean it is flat or very gradual change.

  8. Special Purpose Map Continued • Vegetation map • Show different types of plants that grows in a region.

  9. Assignment • In groups you will look through a unit that I assign you. • Create a table in your notes. • Look through the unite and put page number and type of map you see in the correct column.
