  2. Chapter One - Vocabulary • Reaping – harvesting • Deterrent – a discouragement to act in a particular way. • Poaching – hunting illegally • Maniacally – overly enthusiastically • Preposterous – ridiculous; unbelievable • Haggling – bargaining, usually arguing over a trade or price of an item

  3. Chapter One - Vocabulary • Adjacent – close to or joining • Layer of material such as coal

  4. Chapter Two - Vocabulary • Protocol –the customary or proper way of doing something; etiquette. • Dissent – protest • Plummets – drops (falls) drastically • Radical – extreme • Predicament – problem; troublesome situation

  5. Chapter 3 Vocabulary • Disastrous – extremely unfortunate. • Intensity – concentration; focus • Insurmountable – unable to overcome • Gratified – satisfied • Sniveling – whiney or weepy • Replicate – duplicate; to create again • Disgruntled – unhappy; dissatisfied.
