  1. Consider ways in which journalists use social media to find stories (e.g articles about things that people say on: Twitter/Facebook) and how they use social media to tell stories

  2. Journalists do this by following people “considered” as important figures in life but also in the media. • There are many ways in which journalists use social media to find stories and tell stories. • Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, are just some of the famous social media sites that can produce breaking news stories.

  3. Twitter producing breaking news such as deaths and births, also “spats” between celebrities; such as Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson. • YouTube has recently been used as a means for celebrities to perhaps explain situations, stars such as Tom Daley has recently “come out” saying he’s in currently in a relationship with a man ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OJwJnoB9EKw

  4. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/news-birth-royal-baby-born-2079184 -Kate and William’s baby born into the era of technology and social media • http://rt.com/news/first-israel-gaza-idf-706/ • http://www.journalism.org/2013/11/14/news-use-across-social-media-platforms/ news travels fast through social media • http://www.theguardian.com/media/socialnetworking • http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/social-media/

  5. Social media is a place where various news is formed many begin and become success stories, while others well not so much, • We have dance crazes that take social media and the world by storm; • The Harlem shake • The “Dougie” ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZglqkCRNt8 • And most recently the dance moves that Miley Cyrus famously made so viral it has now made it into the dictionary as of 2013, “Twerking”.

  6. These of course are success stories, we also have stories that begun at first successful but then something goes wrong , well I’m talking about “neck-nominations” • This was a social media drinking craze that was meant to be a harmless piece of fun, has now gone to extremities. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2539028/Neknominating-outrageous-new-drinking-game-trending-social-media.html

  7. How do they use social media to tell stories? • If some of these did not go viral and reach millions of people all over the world, journalists would not have found much of a story from any of these stories. • Journalists are only able to make stories out of these because they simply “expand” on what they have been given and search deeper to see what more they can add so the public sees and hear more than what they already know
