  1. God's Not Dead SeriesThe miracle of Israel

  2. Romans 9:1-5 I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the Holy Spirit— 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, 4 the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5 Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.

  3. Romans 11:1-2I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God did not reject his people

  4. A) God made a deal with a guynamed Abram 4,000 years ago

  5. Gen 12:1-2The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.2 “I will make you into a great nation,    and I will bless you;I will make your name great,    and you will be a blessing.

  6. Gen 15:4-74 Then the word of the Lord came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. 7He also said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.”

  7. B) The promise tested

  8. Gen 22:9-129 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”“Here I am,” he replied.12“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

  9. Gen 22:17-1817 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

  10. C) The promise endures through centuries:Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Egyptian captivity, Moses

  11. D) The promised Messiah arrives

  12. John 6:56-5856 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

  13. Luke 18:31-3331 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”

  14. E) As believers we participate in the promise

  15. 1) We become children of Abraham

  16. Gal 3:6-96 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” 7Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

  17. Gal 3:2929 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

  18. 2) We are grafted in

  19. Romans 11:17-1917 If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18 do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.”

  20. F) Abraham's covenant stands to this day

  21. 1) Jerusalem destroyed 70 AD

  22. 2) Jewish people taken as slaves to all nations

  23. 3) Jewish nation survived 2000 years of death, oppression

  24. 4) Hitler nearly annihilates Jewish people 1933-1945

  25. 5) UN shares world sympathy for their plight, granting them a partition of PalestineUN resolution #181

  26. Ezekiel 37:1212 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.

  27. Ezekiel 37:2121 and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land.

  28. 6) May 14, 1948 State of Israel is born

  29. Isaiah 66:8-108 Who has ever heard of such things?    Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day    or a nation be brought forth in a moment?Yet no sooner is Zion in labor    than she gives birth to her children.

  30. 9 Do I bring to the moment of birth    and not give delivery?” says the Lord.“Do I close up the womb    when I bring to delivery?” says your God.10 “Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her,    all you who love her;rejoice greatly with her,    all you who mourn over her.

  31. 7) War for Independence

  32. George C Marshall US Secretary of State said,“Believe me, I am talking about things about which I know. You are sitting there in the coastal plains of Palestine, while the Arabs hold the mountain ridges. I know you have some arms and your Haganah, but the Arabs have regular armies. They are well trained and they have heavy arms. How can you hope to hold out?"

  33. No armaments, 30,000 untrained troops, no Navy, Air Force... nothing

  34. 8) The desert blooms

  35. Mark Twain said, "A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds... a silent mournful expanse.... a desolation.... we never saw a human being on the whole route.... hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive tree and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country.”

  36. Isaiah 35:1The desert and the parched land will be glad;    the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.Like the crocus,

  37. 9) June, 1967 The Six day War Jerusalem's old city recaptured from Jordan

  38. Luke 21:24 24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

  39. G) The existence of Israel is one of God's greatest witness to mankind and will continue to be so.Against all odds they thrive.

  40. Ezekiel 38:2323 And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’
