  1. Some Important Rules for playing Ludo that You Should Know

  2. As technology advances, board games are shifting from their physical nature to now being played on digital gaming platforms. It has enabled the classic board game of Ludo to enter the contemporary world. The digitalization of Ludo is contributing to its popularity, and it is now gaining recognition around the globe. It is a multiplayer classic board game. Ludo is a mind refreshing game with straightforward rules. The players have to roll the die and strategically move their tokens across the path to secure their win after reaching the home base. Before people started to play Ludo online on digital handsets, Ludo was one of the most widely played indoor games. It has its origins in India during the 6th century as Pachisi. Ludo was played by the Mughal emperors back then, and evidence for it has been discovered in the Ajantha caves. Ludo has been increasingly adopted in the West since the 19th century. Since then, multiple variations of Pachisi have become popular, including a modernized game of Ludo popularized by the British and the US variation known as ‘Aggravation.’ The modern Ludo game has dispensed the ancient ‘Pachisi’ complexities, and the rules and structures have been vastly simplified. Hence, it is an ideal game for children, and it keeps them healthily engaged. Playing Ludo brings down the risk of cognitive decline and is a great stress buster. In this four-player race game, each player starts from their “yard” and must race their tokens to the ‘home’ triangle to secure their win. Ludo Equipment A Ludo Board: The board functions as the Ludo court. It has four square-shaped pockets/houses. Each player chooses a particular pocket and gets four coins of the same color. The track has 52 small steps, including four safe stops (with stars) and four home stops (with arrows). It also consists of four rectangular home runs for each pocket that are the finishing steps.

  3. Tokens or Coins: In the classic four-player Ludo game, there are 16 coins altogether. It consists of four green, blue, red, and yellow tokens each. Each player gets four coins of the chosen color before starting the game according to the rules. Die or Dice: Ludo is played with a small six-sided cube. The numbers on each face of the cube range from 1 to 6. Players must throw the die on their turn, and based on its outcome, they must move their tokens in an equal number of spaces. The various rules for the game of Ludo include: Ludo can accommodate two, three, or four players. The player will start the game from their respective “yard,” the area in the corner of the board. Each yard and its pieces come in different colors, predominantly: red, green, yellow, and blue. The players in the game randomly decide who will take the first turn. Players must throw the die according to their turn. The player needs to roll a six to bring the Ludo piece from the ‘yard’ to the starting position. Alternatively, if their pieces are already opened, they can pace it by six spaces on the track. Besides six, any other outcome of the die is used to advance the pieces already on the track.

  4. The game proceeds in the clockwise direction on the board, and accordingly, it is passed on to the next player. From the start square, the Ludo piece travels across the cross-shaped path and arrives back at the end of the cross’ arm from which it started. If a player rolls a six, they get a chance to roll the die again after they make the corresponding move. If they get a six again on their second throw, they make a third throw. However, if they consecutively get three sixes, it cancels their turn, and the die passes to the next player. If a player’s piece ends its move on a square that the opponent’s piece has occupied, the opponent’s piece must go back to its yard to start its journey all over again. The player who brings all of their tokens to the respective home triangle at the center of the board first is the winner. The rest of the players compete to occupy the second and third places. Rules of Fouls & Penalties Few situations during the game can lead to fouls. These include: It is considered unfair if a player rolls the die and sends it out of the board. A player must roll the dice within the board’s confines.

  5. Three consecutive sixes are considered as a foul. A player must not fake digits in the game, or it is counted as a foul. To Conclude: The players must adhere to the rules of the game and play fairly. The winner is the winner, whichever player relocates all of their four tokens to the home triangle. In the digital medium, the computerized version of the game gives each player a fair and equal chance to secure their win. You can download the app on your mobile and play it anytime and anywhere. Ludo is fun and engaging and allows you to build interpersonal relationships with friends, family, and people worldwide. So, if you are looking for something fun, why not play Ludo!
