Blanchard Valley Health System Antimicrobial Stewardship Program

Blanchard Valley Health System's Antimicrobial Stewardship Program focuses on exceptional clinical care and patient experience while striving for zero patient harm. With the support of senior leadership, BVHS implements a formalized process that includes pharmacy reviews, consultations with infectious disease specialists, medication optimization, and integration with community-based care. The program's outcomes include reduced use of expensive antibiotics without ID consult, high acceptance rate of recommendations made, and review of thousands of patient days of antibiotics per month. Next steps include rapid molecular testing for faster diagnosis.
