4. Task & Objective • Task • Contact various engineering societies and gather information on how chapters are funded. Committee will then review and make possible recommendations for actions within SME • Objective • Motivate and encourage chapter excellence

5. ASME Benchmarking Data • Organization uses a “budget” approach for chapters based on meeting a criteria. For example . . • $350K has been approved by the Committee on Finance and Investment. The FY07 Budget was $310K. $312K was paid out to 140 sections ($2228 / chapter)

6. NSBE Benchmarking Data • No funding is provided to alumni chapters as part of dues • Chapters are self sustaining • National organization provides grants to alumni for special projects (based on application criteria)

7. IIE Benchmarking Data • Chapters receive % of membership dues (12%) • Rebates to chapters sent out 3 times per year • Rebate based on chapter health check • Chapters can receive rebate for previous period if health check improves

8. Society of Automotive Engineers – Chapter Recognition Program • SAE Collegiate Chapters may qualify to receive an allocation (dues reimbursement) from SAE International annually. If eligible, you may receive USD $5.00 per paid student member, based on the total paid membership for the calendar year. • These funds may be used for any of the following: • Promote Chapter meetings and activities • Hold an SAE membership drive • Provide a honorarium or gift to a speaker • Support your Collegiate Design Series team(s) • Activities that are strictly social should be self-supporting and financed by those who participate in them. • Eligibility: • Submit a slate of elected student officers to SAE by December 15. • Maintain at least 25 student members each year for 3 consecutive years. • Faculty Advisor information must be current.

9. ASMI Benchmarking Data • ASMI credits chapters $21 per regular member.  Membership is about $100.

ASMI Benchmarking Data • Also, each chapter can have sustaining members.  These are company representatives that pay somewhat more than the individual member dues, and the chapter gets the difference (more money back to the Chapter).  I think the individual member fee is now $110 per year.  The Sustaining Member fee is a minimum of $150, and the chapter can charge more.  Some chapters may charge $300.  The chapter gets that extra money rebated to them and in return they give special notice or mention of their sustaining members.  • I think that Cleveland Chapter ASMI has ~40 sustaining members.

ASQ Benchmarking Data • Receive funding through our membership dues, with a varied rate, depending on the membership type applied for at enrollment. • Funding is received monthly (as membership renewals or new members join). • As far as our meeting funding, chapter budgets each year expenses and projected membership, addressing the needs of the membership. At events, charge for the meals to the attendees covering most of the expenses. For special projects, bulletin board advertising Quality month, for example, chapter requests a cost sharing from National. (Based on ASQ Section 1303)
