  • Blue Shield – Declined to quote… Stated they could not be competitive
  • CIGNA –Declined to quote*
  • Great West Life (self-funded division of CIGNA) declined to quote*
  • HealthNet – Did not respond
  • United HealthCare – Still awaiting quote
  • SeeChange Health – Quoted and was competitive

*Most (if not all) insurance companies in the large group market will place an “Industry Load” on any group that is in the medical related business, so most often, the Small Group marketplace remains the most competitive as there are no industry loadsand all groups are pooled.

  • Insurance companies are traditionally evaluated by a rating agency called “AM Best.” AM Best does rate companies until they have been in business for at least 5 years; therefore, they have no rating.
