  3. Ethiopia Vs. Genocide • first to sign at the genocide convention • on December 13, Ethiopia became the world’s latest country to attempt genocide • has grown since worse since oil was found in Anuak’s land • endured one of the worlds most genocidal man-made famines of the 20th centuries

Anuak Attack!! • massacre of Anuak people in or around Gambella, Ethiopia • uniformed soldiers were aided in a murder of more then 400 Anuak tribe members • eyewitnesses saw tribes being chopped/stabbed by machetes • ambushes with van by unknown gangs • they want men for soldiers, but systematically rap the woman • early sign of genocidal intent

  5. Efforts to Stop!! • 1200 ANUAK REFUGEE’S LIVE IN EXILE IN SOUTH MINNESOTA • TRIBES MEET EVERY SATURDAY TO PLAN RELIEF EFFORTS • CAMPAIGNS TO CATCH SENATORS ATTENTION HAS RESULTED IN POLITICAL BEATINGS • LEADER HELD RALLY TO STOP ATTACKS IN ETHIOPIA

  6. Essential Question • People can be so cruel because they demote other humans from a humanly status. They become twisted and blinded with hate that they kill off others without concern.
