  15. Engine Diagnostics • Diesel engines do not run totally round. There are masses in linear movement and there are compression and burning cycles which accelerate and decelerate the system. • These effects cause variations in the speed. The speed signal contains information about the compression, the burning cycle and the internal friction; or in other words the basis for an engine diagnostics.
