  2. Pigment vs. Light pigments - "subtractive." Red, blue and yellow can create all the colors of the color wheel. (paint, pigments) red+ blue + yellow (paints) = brown light- "additive." Red, blue, green create all different colors red+ blue + green (lights) = white ("RGB, "computer screens, televisions, digital cameras, stage lights, computer-aided design)

  3. Qualities ofColor Hue - color name. A synonym for color (i.e., blue) Saturation - synonym: intensity. How brightor dullthe pigment is. Temperature - perceived as warmor cool Value- how lightor darka color is

  4. Saturation - How bright or dull the pigment is. Which color here is most saturated?

  5. Primary Colors • "Primary" = first • Can be mixed together to make all other colors of the color wheel • "Pure" pigments. Cannot be made by mixing two colors together

  6. Secondary Colors • Created by mixing two primary colors together

  7. Tertiary (Intermediate) Colors Created by mixing a primary color with a secondary color red + orange = red-orange

  8. Monochromatic Color • "mono" = one • same hue, different values (light to dark) or saturation (dull to bright)

  9. Complementary Colors • Across from one another on the color wheel • Strong contrast - draws attention

  10. Analogous Colors • Next to each other on the color wheel

  11. Color Temperatures warmcool neutral
