  3. History Saint Bridget (Birgitta) of Sweden Born 1303 – Dead 1373 Rome. Sweden´s only saint proclaimed by the pope Bonaficaus IV 1391. Founder of the Bridgettines nuns. Today: 11 nuns live in the modern monastery. The medieval town of Vadstena Saint Bridget´s monastary became the most powerful institution of Sweden in the 14th century. Vadstena Convent Church – permission from the pope 1370. Vadstena Castle built 1545 – 1620
