  1. Project Management – Part 2 Yale Braunstein School of Information Management & SystemsUC Berkeley

  2. More on previous topics • The “weekend problem” • We changed the working schedule, but this may cause problems if schedule changes(Alt-T-H) • Alternate approach: assign “dummy resource” and change its schedule (Select resource on Resource Sheet, then either Alt-T-H or right click) • Splitting tasks • Finding and “using” slack (tasks off the critical path) • Free slack – delays don’t delay ANY other task • Total slack – delays don’t delay project finish date

  3. Track progress with MS Project • When tasks & timeline are set, save baseline • Several alternatives for tracking progress • Enter % completed • Enter time to complete • Enter date completed (more than one is allowed) • Review for changes in critical path • It is now possible to modify the baseline in Project 2000 • But think about why you want to do this! • Work-around for Project 98

  4. Useful source of additional information

  5. Wide variety of tables, charts, views, reports,… • Use Help to sort through the many options • Use the topic “What view to print?” to see what gets printed in each view • “Determine the report to print” gives information on the many reports that are available. • See handouts • Use page format options

  6. Project Summaries Alt-P-P-Statistics gives more than Alt-F-Properties-Contents
