Command Network Explained What is Command Network COMMANDnetwork is a utility that monitors and maintains communication links between servers and workstations in a COMMANDseriesnetwork. CMDnetis launched automatically by COMMANDseries, or is run as a Windows service, it operates in the background, so once it is properly configured, the user generally never has any direct interaction with the program. Command Network Explained What is Command Network CMDnet performs three primary functions: • Updating and synchronizing information on multiple Tracking and Scheduling screens • Monitoring network communications between the various communication managers • Implementing CMDseries licensing Command Series Communications IT-006
Command Network Explained What is Command Network CMDnet has three basic operating modes. Local - Used with a standalone PC. Server - Used in a network setting. One machine must act as the CMDnet server, linking all of the connecting workstations, passing data between workstations, and monitoring the connections. Client - Used in a network setting. Clients transmit and receive information from the server; the server acts as a switchboard. Command Series Communications IT-006

Command Network as a Service Overview • The purpose of running CMDnetwork as a Service: • No need to interact with the server to start CMDnetwork • If there is a power failure, the service will start automatically. • During Remote support, there is less of a chance Command Network will accidentally get stopped or interrupted. Command Network as a Service Getting Started • In order to get started, you will need to contact Command Alkon to get a copy of the scripts required to setup Command Network as a Service • Contact Command Series Dispatch support and request the needed files. • These files will come in a Compress format and need to be unzipped onto the Server that Command Network Server will run. The scripts are desinged to go into c:\CMDalkon directory. Command Series Communications IT-006
Command Network as a Service Getting Started Run COMMANDnetwork in interactive (standard) mode on the server and verify all Setup Parameters are correct. Command Series Communications IT-006
Command Network as a Service • Close COMMANDnetwork. • Copy c:\Windows\cmdnet32.ini to C:\CmdAlkon\CMDFILES. • Open a DOS window (START > RUN > CMD). Command Series Communications IT-006

Command Network as a Service • Note for Windows 2008 and Windows 7 OS The START and STOP will not work properly unless you turn off the User Access Control (UAC) Once turned off, the scripts work fine Command Series Communications IT-006

COM Manager Console Overview COMMANDseries now provides a tool to monitor all active COM managers, as well as a means to prevent multiple identical COM manager processes from executing concurrently. Command Series Communications IT-006

COM Manager Console • A new database table, COM Manager Console Table (CMCT), has been created. This table has the following fields: •Manager Number •Manager Name •Status •Update Date/Time •Process ID •Computer Name •IP Address Command Series Communications IT-006
COM Manager Console • A CMCT record is created for a COM manager the first time it is started and is updated every time data from the COM manager is processed by CMDseries. • Every time a comm manager is started, it checks the CMCT table. If the CMCT indicates that manager is already active, the system will prevent the duplicate instance from starting. Command Series Communications IT-006

Purpose To be able to run COMMANDseries COM Managers as Windows Services. Benefits -COM Managers can be started and stopped from the Windows Services dialog. - COM Managers can be started automatically at boot. - If a COM Manager exits unexpectedly, it can be restarted without user intervention. COMMANDseries Service Manager Interactive (Windows Server 2008+ only) • Sets all COMMANDseries services to Interactive or non-interactive View Session Zero (Windows Server 2008+ only) • Opens a view to session zero so the user can see the user interfacefor each open COM Manager Command Series Communications IT-006
