  4. Why integration Increased collaboration and synergy between programmes Better utilisation and sharing of scarce resources Combined funding proposals Developing human capital – within and outside the Agency Has lead to creation of VWC focus area Improved service to beneficiaries

  5. Capacity development Still have critical shortage of development practitioners – brain drain CWD has role to play in addressing challenges internally and externally Need to capacitate staff at the interface Emerging Leaders Programme Nurture, grow and develop future leaders

  6. African footprint Ecodev: Emergence of 50/50 split between SA and other African countries People return to home countries with transferable skills Funders proposing shift away from SA, but experience shows SA impact in other African countries

  7. MDGs and CWD Of particular concern: “Halving poverty and unemployment by 2014” Critically needed by young people of SA Especially women Enhancing local economic development Building skills in communities Facilitating jobs where people live

  8. Funding challenges Lobby government for more funding 5.7% of funding from SA government in 2010/11 Need multinational governments to understand that SA government capacity to implement foreign-funded programmes is limited

  9. Looking forward Creative ideas for social transformation and change Reading the signs of our times and interpreting to give context of our view of the world CWD mandate of identifying interventions to address Children aged 7 – 14 years Problem reaching critical mass This is the “age of hope”
