  2. Synonyms for the sin nature. • Often sin in the singular, with or without the definite article. Psalm 51:5; Rom. 5:12; 6:1; 7:14 and others • Old man. Rom. 6:6a; Eph. 4:22; Col. 3:9 • Body of sin. Rom. 6:6b • Body of this death. Rom. 7:24 • Flesh. Rom. 8:8; 13:14; Gal. 5:17, 6:8 • Evil. Rom. 7:21 • Sometimes heart. Jer. 17:9; Mt. 12:34; 15:19 James - Flowchart spritual life

  3. Immoral degeneracy Moral degeneracy

  4. AREA OF WEAKNESS • The “area” of the sin nature that tempts the believer to sin is his area of weakness. Every believer has an area of weakness that continually tempts him. However, temptation becomes sin only when the believer’s volition give in to the temptation. • The "area" of weakness directs the production of all personal sin: Hebrews 12:1; Galatians 5:19-21. Four types of personal sin are produced here: emotional sins, mental attitude sins, sins of the tongue, and open overt sinful behavior.

  5. AREA OF STRENGTH • The area of strength is that part of the old sin nature that generates human good or dead works. Every member of the human race possesses an area of strength, yet God forbids its function in the believer. • Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:10, 12, 8:8 James - Flowchart spritual life

  6. Trends and lust patterns of the OSN • The trends of the sin nature come from the individual’s lust patterns • “Lust” is defined as the strong desire of the soul which responds positively to temptation creating the desire to sin. Lust is friendly to the Satanic Cosmic System.  Lust stimulates mental imagination and emotion and it appeals to arrogance. As such it actively resists Divine Viewpoint. James - Flowchart spritual life

  7. lust • Epithumia • desire, craving, longing, desire for what is forbidden, lust • Intense desire – the object of the desire may have nothing wrong with it but it can be open to misuse and abuse by the sin nature • For example: money, material things, approval, sex. James - Flowchart spritual life

  8. LUST PATTERNS OF THE OSN • The Sin Nature has patterns of lusts, or strong desires, the basic motivators of all the activities of human life. The basic drives include (could be expanded?): • Power lust – desire for control over others • Approbation lust- desire for approval / praise from others or self rather than God • Ego lust – desire be number one and/or the center of attention – arrogance toward others • Sexual lust - desire for sexual pleasurewith someone to whom you are not married James - Flowchart spritual life
