AI/AN Mammography Study

Phase Overview and Participation Status

phase i
PHASE I

Telephone interviews with staff from 13 tribal Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Programs

  • identify systematic and programmatic factors that influence access to and use of mammography screening
  • explore solutions developed by program sites to provide outreach to older AI/AN women
phase ii
PHASE II

Focus groups with women 50 years and older that are eligible for screening through BCCED programs

  • identify barriers and motivators for receiving annual screening
  • knowledge and attitudes regarding cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment
  • assess whether older women receive mammography services outside of tribal clinic services
potential outcomes
Potential outcomes
  • clinical and programmatic implications
  • contribute knowledge to inform intervention or outreach efforts
  • define policy issues that affect tribal program abilities to serve older women in their communities
