Methodology
  • This research was designed and conducted by A.J. Lerner Market Research, Inc., an independent market research firm in Boulder, Colorado. Web design and tabulation were prepared by HardwareMonkey, with online survey by Surveybooth.com.
  • Weaver Publishing supplied researchers with e-mail addresses from WyomingTourism.org.
    • 27,003 e-mails were sent to addressees on September 28 and 29, 2008 inviting them to participate in an on-line survey.
    • Responses were tallied on October 23, 2007.
  • The response rate is 9.5%; 2,564 of those contacted clicked onto the web survey.
  • A total of 1,606 respondents completed the entire survey, providing the overall maximum margin of error of +/- 2.4%.
  • Unless otherwise noted, the number of respondents for each question is 1,606.

Better maps of local areas - found some turns missing on map and had to drive an extra 20 mi. Also, listing of shopping/eating areas near National State Parks.

Coherency, particularly between sections of the state. I couldn't get an overall feel for what I should see. It was a hodgepodge. The state is too big to cover it all. I couldn't tell from the booklet what the roads were like from one section to another, either.

It was our fault as readers, but we thought we'd be there during the Frontier Days. We someone got the dates wrong. We wished the dates had been made more prominent in the info.

In general, these publications are targeted to the broadest audience. We would like much more targeted (and less commercial) information about outdoor and natural activities, including bird and wildlife watching as well as eco-friendly lodging and dining options. We're also interested in more focused information about luxury options and options that are not targeted to families with small children.

More detail regarding what to see and maybe detail on maps that shows historic sights and how much time could be spent at each to get a good tour.

I received the packet at my home after my trip. It looked like a great book paging through it after my trip but it was not helpful for my trip.

I had to call to find out what route to take to get to Cody from South Dakota. I wish they had the roads in the book with the grades and cutbacks listed

More detailed information about how to see Yellowstone - it's immense. And what might be going on in Cody while we were there (it was July 4 weekend)

better map

Maybe a better guide to road travel times... for example... Devils Tower to Cody taking route abc about 6 hours. Or if you take xyz route it will take about 5 hours.. It would help people who have never been there better plan there day's ventures... You can say time without stops and avg. speed limit... So if you are a family that stops alot you understand it will take longer. etc...

more detailed information about national park camping

I asked for information on horse camping and trails.

Most the RV parks never returned our calls to make reservations near Cheyenne. The phone numbers for the Buffalo Ranch was either incorrect. We wanted to stay in an RV park in Wyoming. We ended up staying at the Loveland RV park in Colorado which they lied to us, we ask if they were away from town, (which we wanted) if they had large sites with grass and if all their sites had great views of the mountains. They told us they were not near any highways, or towns they actually were located in the middle of the outlet malls. We couldn't see the mountains unless we pulled out of the drive way, the sites were so small our awnings almost touched the next RV's awning. Very disappointed.

city maps

more/better information on campgrounds

reference to national parks weather guides for time of year

better state map

Looking at the scenic drives, it would have been more helpful if they started somewhere other than in the middle of state, to portion of drive.

There needs to be more detailed info regarding the skiing, specifically Grand Targhee. We're coming back in March 2009 for a week at Targhee/Jackson Hole and a more detailed section of the area, restaurants, activities would be very helpful.

needed more information about food - very hard to find places to eat

more detailed and informative information on everything - we found it to be very superficial and too filled with advertisements - used the internet much more, as well as specific brochures from places

I would love to have a license plate county map, I see other states have that as to what county for the tags on vehicles. I can never remember but a few county tag numbers. that would be cool. to have it on the map or somewhere

some higher end place to stay. Handicapped accessible

It was complete enough... hit the wrong button on previous page - sorry!

Specific information about fishing, camping, NF's that was not paid advertising. I came to WY to fish and camp, knew where I wanted to go but would have liked to be able to request a supplemental package re specific activities. Love your beautiful state!

Better listing of campgrounds both public and private with prices and accommodations.

many states have a "bike map" in their collateral...good roads to road bike on, as well as parks that allow mountain biking and have good mountain biking trails.

Terry's Bison Ranch was a rip off, the guide made it look like a great place. It is a dump and the train ride for 12.00 was a joke!!!!

RV'ers could use more information on which passes have what percentage of grades to climb or descend, so to plan their route to travel before they get there.

Nothing -- we had a fabulous vacation!!

I would have liked more info on type of accommodations how to book in National Parks AND much more on cabins, etc. available how to book in state parks near National Parks. Cabins in parks are a great way to go!!

more details about Yellowstone accommodations.

A good map of the state.

Maybe a little more detail of more out of the way and "off the beaten path" type attractions covering more of the towns in Wyoming, even sparsely populated ones.

more detailed information on lodging and where to eat'

It was hard to judge the distance between places of interest. We wanted to see the Oregon trail sites but they seemed very far and we didn't get to see them. Also the distance through the sites in Yellowstone said it took about four hours when it really was much closer.

I'm not sure - can't navigate back to look at the way the previous question was worded.

prices on camp ground per nights--- it would also be helpful if camp grounds would put their prices on the door for people who were on the road and came in after hours and needed a place to stay... I drove away from a few places 'cause it was late and I didn't want to get a costly surprise in the am when I went to register. In Minn, I would know what to expect 'cause they listed the cost on the same sheet that listed the open sites #s.

Wyoming has many fine trout fishing areas that should be listed by region. Streams that are maybe considered "less traveled" would be nice. I was told there was a really nice State Park somewhere in southwest Wyoming but forgot the name of it and could not find anything in the journal regarding this park. Arkansas has a pretty nice journal that lists all trout streams etc. Although Wyoming's journal was quite nice I think Oregon has the finest by far. The format of Oregon’s journal reads like a high end travel magazine and I like the way tours are set up in the magazine as loops so to speak.....a really fine journal (check it out and I think you will agree) A

A State Highway Map

I just pulled out my guide to take another look at it. All in all, I think it is pretty well organized. Most everything I would want to know is contained in it. I do not really have anything critical to say about what you have provided.

If it were presented like AAA travel guide or Fodor’s, it would have been more useful.

maybe coupons

more detailed map of Yellowstone - got that from NPS

I had needed more info on the camping services in Glendo.

more general info about visiting Yellowstone and Grand Tetons...I bet that the majority of visitors to WY visit there, yet I felt as if an equal amount of space was devoted to the HW region of WY as was devoted to the less-popular other regions of WY.

suggested routes for motorcycle touring

I wasn't aware that the national parks close many of their areas in the early fall.

It would have been helpful to suggest National Parks itinerary to get the most out of the trip time.

CAMPGROUND INFO

road maps, descriptions of campgrounds

They have trail guides that they sell for $.50 and they show the geysers. When planning the trip we want to camp and there was little information on the campsites and if there was it was very vague to plan with.
