  5. Why International Management and Consultancy? • Project oriented learning: assignments from real companies • Theory put into practice • Training of research skills • Training of consultancy and management skills

  6. Project oriented learning Students analyse and solve problems of real companies Students work in multi-discilinary international project groups (students from different courses and with different nationalities): different perspectives Student have the role of consultants and learn how to present their advice to real companies

  7. A moment of relaxation during project work, eating Dutch “stroopwafels”

  8. Focus on management and consultancy skills • Training sessions (in small groups) • Project work • Development of personal portfolio

Complete semester in English • Learning by doing principle • Your English does not have to be perfect at the start of the course • By speaking, reading and writing English you will learn fast • English language support is available (a lecturer of English is avaible for feedback on your English) • Most exchange students cope well and learn fast

  10. Rotterdam Educational Model: three ingredients • Knowledge driven learning: lectures, theory • Practice driven learning: project work • Student driven learning: students develop their personal portfolio and reflect on their personal competencies

  11. Personal Portfolio • Personal portfolio: document in which you describe the development of your management and consultancy skills on the basis of a checklist • This portfolio will be presented to your university coaches at the end of your semester in Rotterdam

Main themes of the course • Strategy and Consultancy (learning how to give strategic advice) • Management of Services (learning how to make a services concept for a company, giving the company advice on how to develop product-services combinations that result in more profit, more customer and more employee satisfaction) • Change Management: the step from advice to implementation of advice, “making things happen”

In the last three months I finally got the chance to use my knowledge in real projects for real companies.” • “The whole course is focused on learning by doing. It´s a completely new experience and totally worth it.”

Buddy programme • You will be linked to a Dutch student before you come to Rotterdam (your buddy) • Your buddy will meet with you at Rotterdam central station • Introduction day with buddies • Your buddy will help you with practical matters • Together with other Dutch buddies and exchange students: social activities and excursions to Amsterdam, the Hague and Delft

  17. Practical Matters • Deadline application forms: should be at the international office in Berlin before ? December. Check with your international office! • Erasmus scholarship: around 130€ p.m last year. (check with your International Office!) • Student Housing: between 350 and 400 € p.m last year (subject to change). • You can make use of student housing or find private accommodation in Rotterdam
