  7. Student Local Sections (23 total) • UCLA Industrial Hygiene Student Association • Orange County Section • Southern California Section • University of Arizona • Arizona Section

Regional Representative Role Fifth anniversary of inception – March 2015 Facilitate more communication amongst local sections within a geographic area  Provide coaching to local section officers on effective leadership Track metri​cs of each local section with respect to size, number of meetings, officers, etc. Provide local sections with subject matter speaker information (Speakers Bureau  DL program)

Regional Representative Goals • Visit each section in his / her region during three-year term (May 2013 - May 2016) – need to go beyond Northern California, Sacramento Valley, and Yuma Pacific-SW sections (e.g., visits to Rio Grande and Orange County) • Arrange conference calls (quarterly) within region to exchange information about: • Planned section activities / events • Best practices for conducting section business • How to address “hot topics” & other challenges • Participate in Leadership Workshop (Feb 27 - Mar 1, 2015 ) • Attend meeting of Local Sections Council at the AIHce

Nielsen, CFPS (P), CelenaFreitas (P-E >> P - Jan 2015) • The Bus Kalihi Facility Tour – August • Joint Technical Meeting with ASSE: Hawaii’s Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response program– October • Board of Water Supply Waihe’s Tunnel Tour -- December • Collaboration with University of California – San Diego Extension & OSHA Institute’s Pacific Education Center to publicize IH-related educational opportunities

Pacific Region Section Activities Northern California– Robert Kleinerman, CIH (P), Jyoti Kumar, CIH (P-E >> P - Jul 2015) • Joint dinner meeting with ASHRAE & ASSE – Ultrafine particle instruments - January • IH Forums in Collaboration with Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH): • Silica: Playing Catch-up • Professional Ethics – Setting Up for Success • Technical Symposium (Industrial Hygiene and Health & Safety Challenges in R&D Environments) -- April • Occupational Health Risk from Infectious Diseases andEmerging Pathogens -- September • Sustainability Accounting Standards – November • New ISO OHS Management System Standard Under Development – January 2015 • Einert, Tebbens and Legge awards in recognition of service to the IH profession or academic excellence (the latter two awarded to students)

Pacific Region Section Activities Orange County – Willie Gruenwald, CIH (P), Bob Higley, CIH, CSP (P-E >> P - Jan 2015) • Established new website in 2013 • Creating a Safety Culture To Drive Safety As a Value -- August • Joint dinner meeting with Southern California LS – Noise Engineering Controls for Indoor/Outdoor Shooting Ranges and Manufacturing -- December • Joint breakfast meeting with ASSE chapter – to cover IH-related technical topic – planned for Feb 2015

Pacific Region Section Activities Rio Grande– Greg Lower, CIH (P), Ryann Washburn, CIH (P-E >> P – Jan 2015) • All-day annual Fall Technical Symposium on toxicology, health effects of explosive safety; nanoparticles, and other topics of current interest – December 2013 • All-day annual Fall Technical Conference on IH & Safety in Indian Health Service, Product Stewardship Society, Insomnia and Work Performance Loss, Engineered Safety Work Planning and Controls, Water Tank Rehabilitation, NIR, EH&S Professiona’s in Ebola and • International Laser Safety Conference (LIA-sponsored event) to be held in Albuquerque in March 2015

Pacific Region Section Activities San Diego– John Burton (P), Dallas Cowan, CIH (P-E >> P – Jan 2015) Full-Day Technical Symposium (Exposure Assessment – Current Approaches and Working with Cytotoxic & Pharmaceutically Potent Compounds) – August Ebola and Response Plans – December California Industrial Hygiene Council (CIHC) Conference being held in San Diego (Dec 3-5, 2014)

Pacific Region Section Activities Southern California – Sam Celly, CSP, REA (P), P-E vacancy?? >> P in Mar 2015) • Dinner meeting on a technical topic (not specified) - March • Full-Day Annual Environmental Occupational Health (EOH) Technical Symposium on Energy Alternatives for California's Future: Environmental Health Aspects (Collaboration with California State University- Northridge) • Joint Technical Symposium with AIHA Orange County Section and ASSE chapters – 10 speakers on various IH and safety-related topics -- October • Supports scholarships for IH students

Pacific Region Section Activities Yuma Pacific - Southwest – Del Malzahn, CIH (P), Stephen Davis, CIH, CSP, CAC (P-E >> P Jan 2015) • Annual Meeting Program (2+ days) Healthy Work Environments Through Engineering --- January 2014 (three former OSHA Assistant Secretaries attended this meeting) • Annual Meeting Program (2+ days) Tools, Technology and Big Data–– January 21-23, 2015 • Clayton Award given annually to an individual over 60 years of age who has been exceptionally effective in promoting the field of industrial hygiene.

Summary • Pacific Region section activities continue to help sustain the IH profession by: • Contributing to a sustainable stream of educational (cost effective local events) and other resources in support of members’ current roles and future goals • Providing opportunities for volunteers engaged by: • Who they will meet (e.g., formal / informal mentors) • What they will learn • How they can help • Supporting students thru: AIHF & other scholarships, monetary awards, student LS sponsorship, reduced dues, etc. • Supporting AIHA organizational priorities through collaboration with national AIHA & other organizations (ASHRAE, ASSE, HPS, etc.)
