  4. Requirements for Photosynthesis • Sunlight – different wavelengths of visible light are needed for photosynthesis • Autotrophs – organisms that can make their own source of food. Ex. Plants • Heterotroph – organisms that obtain energy from another source. Ex. People • Pigments – absorb the specific wavelengths (colors) from light • Chlorophyll is the primary pigment in plants. • Energy storing compounds • ATP (adenosine triphosphate) – power currency of the cell
