  2. FCR HealthDatabase • Benefits of a health database • Continuous tracking of genetic health of the breed. An ongoing health survey. • Aid in identification of upcoming health trends. • Identify health projects and directions for funding. • Provide “family” health information to breeders to use in making informed breeding decisions. Include depth and breadth of “family” I.E. Siblings, half-siblings, cousins, aunts/uncles, etc.

FCR HealthDatabase • What information? • Owner & Breeder information – name/address, email, co-owner/breeder • General characteristics – color, temperament, bite, height, weight, birth date, birth country, registration number • Health Certifications – OFA, CERF, cardiac, thyroid, patella, Pennhip • Health Problems – cancer/tumor, cardiac, hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, autoimmune

  6. FCR HealthDatabase • Process (Cont’d) • Who can receive information? • All information in the Database after confirmation will be available to anyone requesting it. A nominal fee will be charged to cover paper and mailing costs. • Reports available might be for an individual dog, dog and its siblings, dog and its progeny, dog and its parents, dog and its grandparents, etc.

FCR HealthDatabase • Process(Cont’d) • Who will post/verify information? • Information will be entered into the database by the regional coordinators(assigned by state/states) • Periodic proactive requests for health information will be mailed out to owners at different points during the life of a dog • Breeders will be contacted routinely for litter information • Information will be cheerfully received at any time!

  8. FCR HealthDatabase • Process(Cont’d) • Coding of Health Problems • Coding Administrator will be responsible for maintaining consistency across the database • Diagnosis will be reviewed on an on-going basis to ensure that health problems are reported only once and in the same way for each dog

FCR HealthDatabase • Process(Cont’d) • Confirmation reports • Once a database update is received, and the information entered, a confirmation report will be generated and mailed to the owner/breeder. • Passive confirmation will allow the updated information to be accepted if no correction is received after 30 days

FCR HealthDatabase • Project Plan • Project Budget • FCR Foundation and the FCRSA Board of Directors approved a project budget of $12,000 with ongoing support costs of $6,000 annually • Due to the generosity and technical acuity of FCRSA member, Mark Reynolds, who is donating his coding time, we should be able to deliver WELL, WELL, WELL under budget

FCR HealthDatabase • Project Plan (Cont’d) • Implementation Plan • June 00: Finalize individual dog and litter forms which will be used to collect information • July 00: Complete Coding & Testing of Database • July 00: Determine Health Coding Scheme • July – November 00 : Pilot an area of the Country • December 00: Formalize process and revise based on Pilot • Jan 01: Continue recruiting for Regional Coordinators, and Coding Administrator • Jan 01: Begin rollout of rest of country
