Which is the worst sin? • not offering Salat • not helping others • committing shirk • not to do Zihad • taking bribe • killing human being • anything else
Which one is the worst crime of a person who practices medicine? • committing mistake in appendix operation • committing mistake in the treatment of typhoid fever • committing mistake in hernia operation • committing mistake in heart operation • practicing medicine without acquiring knowledge of medical science by reading the most authentic book of medicine or surgery
Then which one is the worst crime (sin) of a person who practices Islam? • not offering Salat • committing shirk • not to do Zihad • taking bribe • killing human being • practicing Islam without acquiring knowledge of Islam by reading the most authentic book of Islam, the Qur’an.
Any subject Primary decisionby using Common Sense (Allah-gifted general knowledge) {or Science (Allah gifted special knowledge)} Final decision by assessing the Primary decision with the Qur’an (Allah gifted root proved knowledge) If not possible, Final decision by assessing the Primary decision with the Sunnah(Allah gifted proved knowledge)
If not possible, final decision by matching the Primary decision with Izma or Qias. The more factual one will be accepted
So the primary decision of Islam is that- the worst sin of a Muslim is not having knowledge of the Qur’an.
Meaning: Certainly Shirk is a very big oppression. (Lokman/31 : 13)
Explanation: Certainly Shirk is a very big oppression. Certainly Shirk is a very big Sin
Which one is more big? • big • very big • most big (biggest)
In this verse Allah (ST) has said that Shirk is a very big sin (not the biggest sin).
Meaning: Then who is the greater oppressor (sinner) than one who, due to lack of knowledge invents falsehood in the name of Allah (Qur’an), to mislead men? (An’am/6 : 144)
Explanation: Here Allah has said that he is the biggest sinner who due to lack of knowledge of Qur’an invents falsehood and propagates that in the name of Qur’an to mislead men.
So, it is clear from this verse that lack of knowledge of the Qur’an is the biggest sin.
Meaning: Say, can the one who knows and the one who does not know ever be equal? (Zhumar/39 : 19)
Explanation: A illiterate and a literate person can not be equal in any respect The Muslin who does not have knowledge of the Qur’an will commit Shirk and other sins much more than a Muslim who does have knowledge of the Qur’an Not having knowledge of the Qur’an is a much bigger sin than Shirk
Meaning: When you (start) reading the Qur’an seek Allah’s shelter from the devil who is cursed. (Nahal/16 : 98)
Explanation: Here Allah (ST) has ordered us to seek His shelter before reading the Qur’an. But He has not even advised us to seek His shelter before beginning any other work.
From this big difference in the mode of delivering an instruction, Almighty Allah has made it clear that the most important work of the devil is to keep Muslims away from the knowledge of the Qur’an.
So it can be understood from this verse that the biggest sin is having no knowledge of the Qur’an.
So it is clear that the Qur’an strongly support the primary decision of Islam (decision of common sense) about the biggest sin.
Hence, according to the principle of acquiring Islamic knowledge the final decision of Islam is that- • committing Shirk is a very big sin • lack of knowledge of the Qur’an is the biggest sin.
Meaning: Ubaidullah bin Abu Bakar (R) said- I have heard Amar Ibn Malik (R) saying - once the Rasul (S) was discussing Major sins or was asked about Major sins. He said, “to make partnership (Shirk) with Allah, to kill any person illegally, to disobey one’s parents.”
Then He said- “will I not tell you about the worst sin?” Then He said- “it is lying” (or He said, “it is giving false witness”). Shoba strongly believes the words of the Prophet (S) were, “it is giving false witness.” (Al Maktabatush Shamelah:Muslim,Hadith No.-271)
Explanation: Here the Prophet (S) has mentioned that to tell a lie or to give false witness is a bigger sin than making partnership with Almighty Allah (Shirk).
Lying or giving false witness on Quranic matters is a greater sin than in any other case.
Thus, according to this Hadith, lying or giving false witness on Quranic matters is a much greater sin than Shirk.
Again, committing errors regarding Qur’anic matters without acquiring Qur’anic knowledge is double sin than doing so after acquiring Qur’anic knowledge.
So, according to this Hadith, failing to acquire the knowledge of the Qur’an is a much greater sin than shirk.
