  2. Before we begin, please take a moment to review the pledge cards now being handed out. We would like to collect these cards at the end of the presentation. • DID YOU KNOW . . . • A recent study by Louis Harris and Associates found • that parents agree Scouting helped their child: • Learn moral values, 95% • Develop new skills, 96% • Become involved in community service, 90% • To respect others, 95%

  3. It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to prepare young people to make ethical choices throughout their life, and to help them achieve their full potential. We provide character education for the next generation of Los Angeles Area Leaders.

  4. Your Los Angeles Area Council provides support for: • Over 17,000 youth members in packs, troops, and crews • 38,000 youth in the Learning for Life program last year • 7,000 Adult Members. 968 Units. • In 2009: • Our Scouts gave over 200,000 hours of community service. • 248 boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

  5. DID YOU KNOW . . . • When a Scout registers, none of the fees paid support the council, instead they are devoted to national dues, accident insurance and a Boy’s Lifesubscription. Yet it costs the Los Angeles Area Council approximately $250 a year to provide the crucial support services for just one Scout. Among the Council’s services are: • Providing Unit Accident and Liability Insurance Coverage • Answering phone calls for information, making reservations camping programs • Handling all registrations and Boy’s Life Subscriptions • Maintaining the Los Angeles Council web site • Conducting formal and informal training courses • Recording advancement • Providing necessary forms, literature and supplies • Supporting district/council events • Without the help of our Friends of Scouting Campaign, vital parts of the Scouting experience would have to be cut back or eliminated.

  6. You should know that the Los Angeles Area Council… • Receives no federal funding. • Receives no National BSA funding. • Raises 100% of its dollars locally. • All of the dollars raised goes to support • the youth in our local communities.

Where The Money Goes: • Program/Unit Service - 85% • Summer camp • Day camps • Training • Camporees • University of Scouting • Membership campaigns • Staff training & development • Facility maintenance & utilities • Postage & printing for activities • Program supplies • Youth & volunteer recognition • Travel (Jamboree, training, staff) • Advancement records • Insurance • Fundraising & Special Events - 9% • Management & General - 6%

  9. How Can You Help? The Cost of supporting one boy in Scouting is greater than $250.00 per year. We’re asking for you to consider a gift of only $250.00 per boy (or more if you can afford it) any contribution is appreciated! • RECOGNITION LEVELS • $ANY level of contribution – FOS Lapel Pin • $150 – Contributor Shoulder Patch • $250 – One Scout – Collector Jacket Patch • $500 – Leadership- Special Mug • $1,000 –– Eagle – Limited Edition Plaque • $2,500 – Golden Eagle – All recognitions and special reception invitation FOS Brochure

The Pledge Card & Your Donation • Make checks payable to LAAC-BSA • Pledge are accepted and a reminder from the council can be sent monthly or quarterly to you • VISA , AMEX and MasterCard are accepted • Donations of appreciated stock are accepted • Don’t forget to ask your company if they match charitable donations Very Important: Please fill out a pledge card and turn it in at the conclusion of this program. Our goal is 100% of the families turn in a card and contribute at a level they are comfortable with. We will recognize all donors this evening with their recognition items.
