PCS Status • TMDL Promulgated in December 1998 • Nanticoke TAT formed in 2000 • January 2003: Final Team PCS Recommendations submitted to DNREC • DNREC convened PCS Workgroup to identify agriculture reduction efficiencies • Determine Future Implementation goals • 2004?: Promulgation of Recommendations

  4. TMDL - Total Maximum Daily Load • Point sources • Biological Nutrient Removal or equivalent from Bridgeville, Laurel, & Seaford WWTP • Remaining point sources capped • Nonpoint sources • 30% reduction of TN • 50% reduction of TP • Implementation through a Pollution Control Strategy

  5. Baseline Nutrient Loadings and Required Reductions • Baseline loads based on 1992 land use • Nitrogen: 10,357 lbs/day • Phosphorus: 347 lbs/day • Loading reductions • Nitrogen: 3,107 lbs/day • Phosphorus: 173 lbs/day • We may need to increase our goals to be in compliance with the CBP

Wastewater • PCSs currently in place • Holding tank compliance program (18 tanks) • PCS recommendations • On-Site Wastewater Disposal System (OSWDS) compliance program • Retrofit existing OSWDS with nutrient reducing technologies (14,778 tanks) • The On-Site Wastewater Corporation developed performance standards for use in Delaware

  7. Storm water • BMPs currently in place • Of the 24,624 acres of developed area, approximately 1,074 acres are being treated by storm water structures and filtration devices • Several combined sewer overflows in Seaford were eliminated

  10. Next Steps • Making final revisions to draft PCS for submission to DNREC • Evaluating feasibility of establishing a standing TAT committee
