  2. What is a noun? • A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. • A noun can be common or proper. • Nouns can be singular or plural. • There are even possessive nouns. (Mrs. Carter’s room, Jermarcus’ book, the girl’s backpack, the store’s prices)

What is a Noun? • Person(mom, dad, cousin, teacher, principal, boy, girl) • Place(school, store, classroom, bathroom, house, apartment, downstairs, outside) • Thing(pencil, floor, drink, spoon, toothpaste, lotion, flag, purse, phone, television) • Idea(justice, courage, respect, curiosity, honesty, friendship)

  4. What are Common and Proper Nouns? • Common nouns are regular nouns. • Proper nouns are specific. These are capitalized. Proper common school Buena Vista hospital Vanderbilt street Main Street teacher Mrs. Carter store Kroger game Wii state Tennessee

  5. What are SINGULAR and Plural Nouns? • Singular means one. • Plural means more than one. Most just need to add an s. plural singular school schools hospital hospitals street streets teacher teachers book books girl girls state states

Timed Rally Table • You will use one piece of paper for your table group. • The first person will begin a list of PLURAL NOUNS by writing one plural noun. • Pass the paper to the next person. • The next person will write another plural noun and pass it to the next person at the table. • Continue until I call time. You may begin when the music starts.

  10. Carousel Feedback • Teams will stand in front of their group table. • Rotate clockwise to the next group’s table. • Look at and discuss that team’s list of nouns until I say PERSON, PLACE, THING. • Rotate clockwise to the next group’s table. • Look at and discuss that team’s list of nouns until I say PERSON, PLACE, THING. • Continue until you get back to your table.
