  2. Information What is a Book Rental Scheme? A Book Rental Scheme means that the school will purchase all textbooks and parents pay a rental charge to the school each year for the use of these books. Who owns the books? The school remains the owner of the books at al times.

  3. Information continued.. • What are the benefits to having a Book Rental Scheme? There are many benefits for both parents and pupils; • The scheme will greatly reduce the amount of money spent by parents each year on books. • Parents no longer have to go through the hassle of purchasing and covering books. • The “Back to School” costs for parents are spread more evenly throughout the year.

  4. Information continued.. • How will it work? The school will source and with volunteers, will cover and label the textbooks required by each pupil each year. In return for an annual fee each child will receive the required books for the new school year in August/September

In return for an annual fee each child will receive the required books for the new school year in August/September. • Is there a rental deposit? Yes. Each child will pay a once-off deposit to ensure the safe return of the books. This deposit will be used to replace lost/damaged books. It will be carried forward from year to year. If part of the deposit has to be used to replace a lost/damaged book, the deposit must be restored to the full amount prior to the next year. The deposit will be returned when you child leaves Timoleague N.S.

  6. Information continued.. • Can I donate schoolbooks to the school? Yes. The school would be delighted to accept any textbooks of good quality. Any donations would greatly help to reduce the cost of book rental in the long term. • What if I don’t want to join this scheme? The success of this Book Rental will greatly depend on all parents and pupils buying into the scheme. However, participation in the scheme is optional.

  7. Information continued.. • How do I pay? Payment for each pupil will be collected in June. The information will be sent out to all parents. Payments can be made by cash or cheque or directly lodged to specific bank account and a receipt will be issued.

  8. Information continued.. • How is it being funded? There has been a super fundraising effort made for this scheme. We have also availed of the Government Book Rental Scheme Grant. 70% of this grant has been received and the further 30% will be paid in 2015. At present there is a total of € in the Book Scheme Account. • What happens to the books at the end of the year? All books will be retained in the school for the following year.

  9. How can I help? • Helping to cover the books • Helping to sort, tag and check books • Helping to make up sets of books for each student This help would be required in June to get books ready for the children on their return to school in August/September.

  10. School Year 2014-2015 • It has been decided to introduce the Book Rental Scheme in a phased process. 3rd & 4th class 2014-2015 (present 2nd & 3rd) have been deemed the most suitable. There will be 38 children in these classes so it will benefit the most. The textbooks will be included in the scheme.

  11. First Year of Scheme • In the first year of introducing the scheme to particular classes – 2014/2015 3rd & 4th – the parents of children in 3rd & 4thclass currently will have the option to “sell” their 2nd hand books to the scheme. They will receive 50% of their original value if they are deemed suitable for the scheme. They, of course, have the option of donating the books to the scheme.

  12. Facts & Figures • The booklist will cost €97.90. The textbooks will cost €72 and the workbooks €25.90 • As part of the Rental Scheme; • Deposit €15 (Once off payment returned to parents after 6th class) • Book Rental Cost €20 • Workbooks (purchased outside of book rental) = €25.90 • Savings as part of Timoleague N.S. Book Rental Scheme (excluding deposit) = 47%

  13. Dates to Remember • Book Rental Scheme Participation Sheet to be returned to school Thursday May 22nd. • Trade-In Option Sheet to be returned to school Thursday May 22nd. • Book Rental Cost & Deposit payable Friday June 13th • Trade in Books handed in Friday June 20th • Volunteers needed for book covering and labelling on Friday June 20th.
