  1. 1.3 Language of Anatomy Objectives: Become familiar with Anatomical Position. Utilize Anterior & Posterior regional terms correctly. Differentiate between the 3 body planes. Recognize the components of the 2 major body cavities

  2. Anatomical Position • Anatomical position is standing face front, feet together, arms at the sides, with palms facing forward

  3. Regional Terms:Anterior Body Landmarks • Abdominal: Anterior body trunk, inferior to the ribs • Antecubital: Anterior surface of elbow • Axillary: Armpit

  4. Regional Terms:Anterior Body Landmarks • Brachial: Arm • Buccal: Cheek • Cervical: Neck

  5. Regional Terms:Anterior Body Landmarks • Digital: Fingers/Toes • Femoral: Thigh • Inguinal: Where thigh meets body trunk

  6. Regional Terms:Anterior Body Landmarks • Oral: Mouth • Orbital: Eye • Patellar: Anterior Knee

  7. Regional Terms:Anterior Body Landmarks • Pubic: Genital Region • Thoracic: Chest • Umbilical: Navel

  8. Regional Terms: Posterior Body Landmarks • Deltoid: Curve of Shoulder • Gluteal: Buttock • Lumbar: Between ribs & hips (Lower back)

  9. Regional Terms:Posterior Body Landmarks • Occipital: Posterior surface of the head. • Popliteal: Posterior knee area. • Scapular: Shoulder blade region • Sural: Posterior surface of lower leg (calf)

  10. Body Planes & Sections • Sagittal Section: A cut made lengthwise (longitudinal) that divides the body into L & R halves. • Midsagittal • Parasagittal

  11. Body Planes & Sections • Frontal Section: A cut made lengthwise that divides the body into anterior & posterior parts. (Front & Back)

  12. Body Planes & Sections • Transverse Section: A cut made along a transverse (horizontal) plane, dividing the body into superior & inferior parts (Top & Bottom). AKA cross section.

  13. Body Cavities • Ventral Body Cavities • Thoracic Body Cavity: The superior (upper) body cavity that extends down to the diaphragm. • Abdominopelvic Body Cavity: • Abdominal Cavity • Pelvic Cavity

  14. Ventral Body Cavities

  15. Body Cavities • Dorsal Body Cavities: • Cranial Cavity: Space inside the body skull. • Spinal Cavity: Extends from the cranial cavity down the vertebral column.

  16. Abdominopelvic Body Cavity
