  4. Some characteristics • founded in 1984 • about 650 staff members • 15 study centers in the Netherlands and 6 in Flanders • 23.000 students all in • founding member of the Dutch Digital University wim.jochems@ou.nl

Educational model: integrated e-learning mix of: • guided self study: written distance learning materials • face-to-face activities: very limited • e-learning as a means to manage self study: (part)task in task structures • integration of training on the job: learning by doing • all communication via Internet (info, feedback, …) in search for an optimal mix wim.jochems@ou.nl

Some principles • staff members participate in 2 programmes: transfer and feedback (min. 50% implementation) • five year programmes, externally reviewed • all activities (projects) within a programme • programme head focusses on content; capacity manager and support manager focus on personel, finances and material issues • growth by increase of external funds wim.jochems@ou.nl

  10. Implementation supporting educational innovation: • comakership: course development in coproduction with teachers in course teams (OUNL, Digital University) • consultancy: coaching innovation projects (OUNL, HE-institutes, Agricultural Education, …) wim.jochems@ou.nl

  11. Education disseminating educational technology-expertise: • masters in educational sciences/technology • short courses: instructional design, UML, design of digital courses, … • seminars on e-learning policy and e-learning introduction in HE wim.jochems@ou.nl

  12. R & D • 5 year programmes, consisting of projects with defined deliverables and deadlines • externally assessed • pooled capacity allocated to programme • programme manager is responsible for quality and output • externally financed projects have to fit within programme wim.jochems@ou.nl
