And, their high school diploma requirements are not your high school diploma requirements…

Core 40 Math - 6 credits must be earned in grades 9-12 - Students must take a math course or quantitative reasoning (QR) course each year in high school QR courses include courses that help advance a student’s ability to apply mathematics in real-world situations and contexts. The final approved course list DOE has not yet been released by the DOE. Examples might include some Business and Marketing, Engineering (PLTW), Science, Trade & Industrial, etc. courses

Core 40 with Academic Honors Diploma • Complete all requirements for Core 40 • Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits • Earn 6-8 credits Core 40 world language credits (6 credits in • one language or 4 credits each in two languages) • Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits • Earn a grade of “C” or above in courses that count toward the • diploma • Have a cumulative GPA of a “B” or above • AND…

Core 40 with Academic Honors Diploma • Complete one of the following: • A. 4 credits in AP courses and take corresponding AP exams, • B. 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from priority course list, • C. Earn two of the following: • 1. 3 college credits from priority course list, • 2. 2 credits in AP courses and take corresponding AP exams, • 3. 2 credits in IB courses and take IB exams. • D. Earn a 1750 or higher on the SAT critical reading, math, and writing sections and a minimum of 530 on each section • E. Earn an ACT composite score of 26 or higher and complete written section • F. Earn 4 credits in IB courses and take corresponding exams

Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma • Combines rigor and relevance; • Prepares students for two year or four college, technical school, or apprenticeship; • Students gain marketable skills and, in many cases, college credit; • Student can earn both the Core 40 with Academic Honors and the Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma.

Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma • Complete all requirements for Core 40, • Earn grade of “C” or above in courses that count toward the diploma, • Have a GPA of “B” or above, and • Earn 6 credits in the college & career preparation courses in a College & Career Pathway and one of the following: • 1. Pathway designated industry-based certification or • credential, or • 2. Pathway dual credits resulting in 6 transcripted college • credits • AND...

  15. Core 40 with Technical Honors Diploma • Complete ONE of the following: • A. Any one of the options (A-F) of the Academic • Honors Diploma. • B. Earn the following scores or higher on WorkKeys: • Reading for Information – Level 6, • Applied Mathematics – Level 6, and • Locating Information – Level 5. • C. Earn the following minimum score(s) on • Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, Math 75. • D. Earn the following minimum score(s) on Compass: • Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80.

Credits Earned in Junior High • 8th grade students currently enrolled in Algebra I, Geometry, and/or Biology I may elect to receive high school credit. • Electing to receive credit also means the grades will transfer to the high school transcript and will be used in the calculation of a student’s grade point average and class rank. • Students in the Class of 2018 will have until May 1, 2015 to make a decision NOT to accept the credit. The default decision will be to transfer it. • Please discuss the impact of electing to take the credit(s)with your high school counselor if you have any questions.

ISTEP+ Graduation Examination • Algebra I End-of-course Assessment (ECA) • English 10 End-of-course Assessment (ECA) • All Indiana students are required to pass the Algebra I and English 10 ECAs in order to graduate. • Students will have multiple opportunities to take the assessments. • Students are required to take the Biology I ECA, but a passing score is not required to graduate.

  19. College & Career Readiness and PSAT Testing Students are required to take the PSAT in October of their sophomore year. Some choose to take it their junior year. The State of Indiana is using this assessment to determine college and career readiness. Counselors will work with students who demonstrate a need for support to be ready for their next steps after school; college or career.

Scheduling Activities Classroom presentations • February 7 – St. Michael’s • February 7 - GCJHS Individual scheduling appointments* • February 11-14, February 18-21 – GCJHS • February 27 – St. Michael’s “On the Road to High School” at G-CHS • Tentative Date – April 15 Freshmen Preview Day at G-CHS • Tentative Date – Tuesday, July 29 *In the event of a 2-hour delay, scheduling appointments will take place as scheduled. If school in cancelled, we will reschedule. Bring your packet with you and, don’t forget, all appointments are at your school!

  24. Freshmen Electives # In order to take Strength & Fitness, a student must have taken Physical Education I. All Strength & Fitness students must have a physical on file by July 31, 2014.

  25. Summer School Options Equipping Year Round

Summer School – Two Options Classroom Dates (as of today) • June 2- June 27 • Physical Education is available for all freshmen Cougar Academy Courses • Many courses are available on-line through Cougar Academy • Some freshmen choose to take Health and/or World History or World Geography on-line • June 2- July 30 (must complete or will earn an “F” for the class) Courses are $30 and you must pay at the time of registration.

  27. Twenty-first Century Scholars Equipping for Financial Aid

The Scholarship Program • Available for students on free or reduced lunch or within an eligible income range • Provides tuition fees for any state college or university • Requires grade point average minimums for high school and college • Requires a signed pledge and exit procedures • Must be applied for by June 30thof the 8th grade year • Visit www. scholars.in.gov for more information
