Introduction • Registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 on 3rd September, 2001 (No. S 40224) • Founded by Three Engineers and a Sociologist, has now grown to a 15 member workforce of dedicated and skilled field staff. • Driven by the ambition to reach technology to all, bridge the digital divide and achieve participative development. • Spearheading forward through its three wings Prakrit – Our initiative for an eco-friendly future Sakshar – Education for all Tarang – Information Technology for development • In its three years of operation, V V F has harvested 100000 sq m of catchment area for rainwater converted 50 tons of waste to 10000 kg of compost made 263 people computer literate, 75% employed.

  3. Introduction At V V F we build our projects towards financial sustenance through Self-Income Generation & Operational Sustenance through community participation.

  4. Our Vision & Mission Vision To help Communities to evolve as Socially Aware, Economically Self -Reliant and Morally Responsible units, thus enabling a Self-Actualised Society. Mission VVF strives to work with communities, individuals and organisations; developing, evaluating and implementing sustainable programs that empower them with Awareness and Information and assist them to harness the benefits of Science and Technology to use them to improve their quality of lifeand in doing so maintaining a commitment to excellent services, innovation, transparency and integrity.

  6. Saakshar Education for All Setup in April 2002

Saakshar • Long-Term Goals • Establish a norm for schools for preparatory/ bridge courses for dropouts, children from slum pockets, migrant families etc • Skill Training and Functional Literacy for adolescent children from the given section • Adult Literacy for men and women from the given section • Education on issues of Self Advocacy, Social Security, Personal Savings • Health education and primary health care for slum inmates • Self-help groups for trained adolescents, adults.

Saakshar • Activities • Non-Formal Education for children in the age groups 4- 8 years and 8 - 13 years; focus on integrating these children in to formal schools • Remedial classes for mainstreamed students • Child Care Centre caters to young ones in the group 1 - 4 years, while their elder siblings attend school; provides them with early intervention & basic concepts for formal education later • Mid-Day Mealsare provided free of cost; well-balanced diet of 250-300 calories, Average weight gain of 1-1.5 kg achieved per pupil. • Vocational Training of adolescent boys & girls from slums - cutting and tailoring, beautician, candle making, screen printing and typing.

Saakshar • Methodology: At each Learning Center • 30 pupilare adopted for mainstreaming every year • Approx. 30 pupil are admittedto Early Intervention Group each yr • siblings of these pupil are attended toin Crèche • 50 pupil are given remedialclasses • 25-30 girls enrolled in ‘Cutting & tailoring’ & Beautician classes • 15-20 boys are trainedin candle making, screen printing • Milestones crossed • 90% children mainstreamed, performing well in school • 0% drop-out after V V F intervention at Basti • School attendance of slum children gone up to 60% from 33% • 5 boys earned Rs 25000 from candle making last year • Looking Ahead • Adult Literacy Program • Education on issues of Health, Savings, Self - Advocacy

Vocational Training costs an additional Rs 350 per month per child. • At Aarambh - VVF incurs a cost of Rs 600 per month per trainee in ‘Computer Literacy courses.

(Tax exemption u/s 80G) • We need Volunteers to support us as • Balsakhi: to monitor our slum children who have been mainstreamed into formal schools. • Green Team member: Our social catalysts from the community to help us implement Environmental Solutions in your neighborhood. • Buy our Products • V V F trains its beneficiaries to produce many craft items like Candles, Wrought-iron products, embroidered items etc. These products are available for sale at Aarambh, Ph: 91-11-2505 8853. • We also put up stalls & participate in exhibitions etc to promote sale of the above products. Some of the venues where we have exhibited are: ST Microelectronics, Noida; Hotel Hyatt Regency, New Delhi; Australian High Commission and others
