  1. Studying The Brain

  2. Definitions to put in your “Definitions” section of your binder Hindbrain: a part of the brain located at the rear base of the skull that is involved in the basic processes of life Midbrain: a small part of the brain above the pons that arouses the brain, integrates sensory information, and relays it upward

  3. Definitions to put in your “Definitions” section of your binder Forebrain: a part of the brain that covers the brain’s central core, responsible for sensory and motor control and the processing of thinking and language. Lobes: the different regions into which the cerebral cortex is divided.

  4. Parts of the Brain to Know (the three brains)

  5. Parts of the Brain to Know (the three brains) Hindbrain -cerebellum… -medulla… -pons… Midbrain -stimulates the brain and relays info

  6. Parts of the Brain to Know (the three brains) Forebrain -thalamus -hypothalamus -cerebrum -corpus callosum -cerebral cortex -amygdala -hippocampus

  7. Lobes of the Cerebral Cortex -

  8. Lobes of the Cerebral Cortex -there are two hemispheres to the brain -they are connected by the corpus callosum -occipital lobe -visual signals processed -temporal lobe -hearing, memory, emotion, and speaking

  9. Lobes of the Cerebral Cortex -frontal lobe -organization, planning, creative thinking Parietal lobe -gets info from the skin, senses, and muscles

  10. Hemispheres of the Brain -left and right hemispheres -compliment each other (mirror images) -corpus callosum carries messages between the hemispheres -each side connected to opposite side of the body

  11. Hemispheres of the Brain -left hemisphere -controls right side of the body -often where speech is located -mathematical ability, calculation and logic

  12. Hemispheres of the Brain -right hemisphere -controls the left side of the body -adept at visual and spatial relations -ex: puzzles -recognizing patterns from visual to auditory

  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVGlfcP3ATI&feature=related -This is a video giving a virtual representation of the brain.
