Baptism Is Not:

  • An Expression of Already Being Saved -
  • An Outward Sign of An Inward Grace
  • A Work of Man’s Righteousness – Titus 3:5

Some Things Baptism Will Do

When one by faith repents of his/her sins, confesses their faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and is baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ - that person is -

  • Forgiven of past Sins – Acts 2:38; 22:16; Col. 2:12,13
  • Added To The Church – Acts 2:47; 1 Cor. 12:13
  • In Christ – Rom 6:3-6; Gal. 3:27
  • Saved – Mark 16:15,16; 1 Pet. 3:21

Remove Physical Consequences of Sin

  • David was forgiven but still faced consequences – Ps 32:5; 2 Sam. 12:9-14
    • Death of his son – 2 Sam 12:15-20;
    • Amnon & Tamar – 2 Sam 13:1-15
    • Absalom murders Amnon & flees – 2 Sam. 13:22-38
    • Absalom’s treason – 2 Sam 15:1-12
    • Absalom’s defeat & death – 2 Sam 18
  • Paul – Acts 9:16; 2 Cor 11:22-33

Remove Temptations To Sin

  • Jesus – Mark 1:9-13
  • Simon the Sorcerer – Acts 8:9-24
  • All Christians – 1 Cor 10:13; Jam 1:13,14
  • The battle with Satan will most likely intensify – Eph 6:11; 2 Cor. 11:3; 1 Pet 5:8

  • Guilt yes – memory no– 1 Tim. 1:12-16
  • Memory of past sins can help us not repeat them – 1 Cor 10:1-13
  • We need to learn to forgive ourselves – Phili 3:13,14

Remove The Problems of Life

  • Christians will face many problems in life – Acts 14:22; 2 Tim 3:11,12
  • Some will even fall away because of trials and tribulations – Mat 13:20,21
  • God will give us what we need to endure – James 1:1-6; 1 Cor 13:5

Make Spiritual Growth Unnecessary

  • Christians must add to their faith – 2 Pet. 1:5-10
  • We must to bear fruit – Mat. 13:20-23; Jn. 15:1-10
  • We must grow in our abilities and service – Eph. 4:15,16; Heb. 5:12-6:8; 2 Cor. 5:10
